Marilyn Doane is the Cedar Springs Women’s Club Outstanding Woman of the Year for 2018.
Each year the Cedar Springs Women’s Club recognizes one woman for her exemplary spirit and contributions during that Club year. The candidate is one who is enthusiastic in the promotion and support of Women’s Club as well as being actively involved in community activities.
The 2018 Cedar Springs Women’s Club Outstanding Woman of the Year is Marilyn Doane. Marilyn and her husband, Roger, have constructed and manage the 55-plus Manufactured Housing community Cedar Fields, where Marilyn is the “Crew Chief” with a bevy of staff, contractors, and helpers. Marilyn loves hiking, camping, canoeing and skiing. One year she hiked around the California Coastal Range with her crew of men when the US Forest Service offered her a job as Crew Chief. She even earned her pilot’s license, which enabled her to fly around the U.S., Mexico, and Alaska.
As an active member of Women’s Club, Marilyn takes photos of members and helps put together and print the annual club booklet. She is also the gracious hostess for the Women’s Club Christmas Tea at Cedar Fields each December. The Women’s Club is proud and pleased to have Marilyn Doane as the Outstanding Woman of the Year.

The May meeting of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club was full of celebrations.
Every year one woman of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club is recognized for her exemplary spirit in the promotion and support of Cedar Springs Women’s Club and her involvement in community activities. This year’s recipient of the 2015-2016 Outstanding Women’s Club Member is Carolyn Davis. Carolyn has been active on the Women’s Club CAN committee, has volunteered at North Kent Service Center, has held the offices of 1st and 2nd Vice President, and served as Club President from 2012-2014. Her husband Dan, daughters Kelli Clark and Soonja Koole, and grandson Alec Falicki, surprised Carolyn at the ceremony and luncheon. Past Woman of the Year recipients, Penny Darling, Caroline Bartlette and Sue Harrison presented Carolyn with a dozen roses (the Club flower), as well as a certificate and wall plaque designating her as the 2015-2016 award winner.
Thelma Morris celebrated her 95th birthday on May 2 and was presented with a bouquet of flowers.
The Cedar Springs Women’s Club celebrated the election of a new Board of Officers for 2016-2017. They are: President Sue Harrison; 1st Vice President Penny Darling; 2nd Vice President Donna Clark; Secretary Caroline Bartlette; Corresponding Secretary Sally Grayvold; Treasurer Char Heim; Directors: Kristina Kornoely, Louise King, and Kathy Anderson. The officer installation ceremony takes place at the June meeting.

Each year the Cedar Springs Women’s Club recognizes one woman for her exemplary spirit and contributions during that Club year. The candidate is an enthusiastic supporter in the promotion of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club and is actively involved in community activities. That honor has been bestowed on 46 women in the Club since 1969.
The Women’s Club honoree is usually recognized and honored at the June meeting. However, because she would be on a field trip in June with her grandchild, a very surprised Penny Darling was presented with that honor at the May meeting.
Caroline Bartlette, 2013 winner, read a short biography about Penny, including information about her family, her service as secretary to the Women’s Club and involvement in Club activities as well as her involvement in Red Flannel Festival as chaperone for the Red Flannel Queen and Court for many years.
Many of Penny’s family attended the ceremony, including son Joe and his family, daughter Stephanie and her children, and Sarah, a good friend of Penny’s. They presented her with flowers, and, after a lot of tears and hugs, Penny was presented with a plaque commemorating her choice as Cedar Springs Women’s Club 2014-2015 Member of the Year, a certificate, and a dozen roses by 2014 recipient, Sue Harrison.
