WMP results from Greights, Valentine’s Day Brawl and Pennway

This past weekend West Michigan Pursuit had kids traveling to Pennsylvania, Kalamazoo and Grandville for competition this past weekend. 

The PENNWAY Duals and Individual events were held in California, Pennsylvania at the University Convocation Center. WMP had seven grapplers enter. 86 lb Alex Buskirk wrestled for Michigan Mahem Blue, 12U. He won two matches and his team finished 1st. 78 lb Luke Egan and 82 lbTyler Parmeter wrestled for TNT, 12U. Egan went 4-1 and Parmeter won 2 matches.  Their team finished 4th. 54 lb Carter Giles, 74 lb Evan Andrews and 78 lb Quinten Cassiday wrestled for Michigan Mahem White, 12U. Giles and Cassiday both went 4-1 and Andrews won two matches. Their team finished 5th. 44 lb Kooper Witte wrestled for TNT 7U. Witte won three matches and his team finished 2nd. Quinten Cassiday also entered the individual event at Pennway and claimed the Championship Title in the 12U, 78 lb wt class! The West Region was hosted by Grandville and WMP entered four to compete. 66 lb Travis Pike, 9/10 age group finished 3rd and 63 lb Blake Werkema, 9/10 age group finished 2nd. 

The Southwest region hosted the Valentine’s Day Brawl at the Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo.  WMP entered 17 grapplers to compete, placing 12 in the top four. 114 lb Evan Mouch, 13/15 age group finished 4th. 64 lb Dylan Russo, 7/8 age group; 90 lb Harper Cheng, 11/12 age group and 80 lb Alex Russo, 11/12 age group all finished 3rd. 97 lb Declan Mead, 7/8 age group; 57 lb Carter Giles, 9/10 age group and 95 lb Ayden McClurken, 11/12 age group all finished 2nd. Valentine’s Day Brawl Champions are 55 lb Ethan VanDyke, 5/6 age group; 54 lb Brody Compau, 9/10 age group; 80 lb Luke Egan, 11/12 age group; 105 lb Blake Peasley, 11/12 age group and 80 lb Josh Vasquez, 13/15 age group. 

WMP would like to recognize Luke Egan and Carter Giles for their travel. Both competed in Pennsylvania on Saturday, and they traveled through the night to get back to Michigan and compete in Kalamazoo on Sunday. 

“It is the dedication from the parents of my athletes and the drive they have themselves that help build the reputation of my program. These kids love to compete, and helping them obtain their goals is my passion,” said Head Coach Dave Andrus.
