2nd Chance Acoustic Jam

Feb. 14: 2nd Chance will be having an Acoustic Jam fundraiser hosted by the Gitchel’s every Friday from 6 to 9 pm. The first Friday of each month will be a Potluck. It will be at 2nd Chance School at 810 – 17 Mile Rd., Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile and Olin Lakes Road). 2nd Chance would love to have you join us for an evening of playing with or listening to awesome musicians and support 2nd Chance School at this fundraiser. $4 donation at the door – 15 and under are free. Valentine’s Snowshoeing at HCNC

Feb. 15: Bundle up for a candle lit snow shoe walk on Saturday, February 15th at 6:30 pm. Enjoy a guided walk to our bonfire where hot beverages and s’mores await you. If the snow decides not to show, this will be a trail walk. All ages welcome. Snow shoes provided. Members $3/Nonmembers $5. Michigan Blood Drive

Feb. 18: A Michigan Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, February 18th at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church located at 140 S Main Cedar Springs. The drive is will go from 12:30 pm until 7 pm. To schedule an appointment visit https://donate.michigan.versiti.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/108178. On average, 1 out of every 7 people entering the hospital will need blood. #7

Dinner at East Nelson Church

Feb. 19: East Nelson Church Community Dinner, 9024 – 18 Mile Rd., Cedar Springs, will be February 19 from 5 pm to 7 pm. We will be serving Pork Tenderloin, Red Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole, Rolls, Relish Tray, and Homemade Desserts. Donations are appreciated! Hope to see you there! #7

Winter PJ Movie Night at the CS Library

Feb. 21:  Join us for a family fun PJ movie night! Friday, February 21st 6-8pm. Enjoy popcorn, a drink (along with other goodies) and a movie! The movie is TBD so stay connected with Library updates. Don’t forget to bring your favorite stuffed animal! All ages are welcome to attend. #7

Cure for Cabin Fever at HCNC

Feb. 29: Howard Christensen Nature Center is hosting a Cure for Cabin Fever Craft Day on Saturday, February 29th from 10 am to 2 pm. Open house style, free admission, all ages welcome – $3/ make and take craft. Crafting: Cardmaking starts at 10:30 am, 11:30 am and 12:30 pm. Felted wool project starts at 11 am, 12 noon and 1 pm. Ongoing projects: Essential oils, face painting, rock painting, treasure boxes, book marks, paper fish and dream catchers. Gentle Yoga from 11 am – 12 noon. Bake sale, used books, quilt and craft books, fabric and supplies, Easter supplies and much more for sale! Celebrate Recovery

Senior Fitness Classes

Oct.17,22,24,28,30: One out of three older adults fall each year and these falls are the leading cause of emergency department admissions. Falls can be a significant obstacle to healthy aging. There’s good news, too: physical activity has proven to help prevent falls. Senior Neighbors is pleased to be partnering with Cedar Springs Public Schools in offering a new fitness class in Cedar Springs! Open to anyone age 60 or older, these classes will focus on endurance, flexibility, strengthening, balance, and having fun. Classes began Tuesday, September 10th and will be offered each Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am in the board room at the Cedar Springs Public Schools hilltop building. Come when you can, do what you can do! Pre-registration is not required. These classes are available through the Kent County Senior Millage- donations are accepted, or use your Silver&Fit benefit! Praise the Lord at Cowboy Church

Oct. 20: 2nd Chance will be having Cowboy Church on Sunday, October 20th  at 6 pm. It will be at 2nd Chance School at 810 – 17 Mile Rd. Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile and Olin Lakes Rd). Music and Ministry will be shared by the musically gifted Gitchel family who will share their musical talent and gospel lessons. Invite your family and friends. Cowboy Church will be once a month for the fall. Each service will have different people sharing God’s word and music. Cowboy Church will introduce you to 2nd Chance and its vision. Oct. 30:  Pine Grove Senior Café Presents A Taste of Italia. All Signors, Signoras and Signorinas age 60 and older, come to our humble table(s) and dine with us. Mamma Mia! Its Meatballs & Sauce, perhaps a veggie, bread & salad now as for Dessert it will be Blueberry Crisp.  And you never know when a Relish Plate may appear.  Senior Café Italia opens Wednesday October 30th at Noon in our Family Life Center on the North West corner of Beech & M-82. #42

Fall Craft Bazaar at Howard City VFW

Nov. 2: The Howard City VFW will be holding their Fall Craft Bazaar on Sat., Nov. 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Post Home located at 1001 S. Ensley (better known as old 131 or Federal Hwy) in Howard City. We have lots of vendors eager to show you their items and help you get a little early Christmas shopping done. Our kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch for a nominal fee and we will have door prizes, a raffle, lots of smiles and fun and hope to see you there. All proceeds go to the VFW for their projects benefiting veterans and their families, our local schools and the community. #42-44p

Easter Bunny at CS Library

Apr. 6: Saturday, April 6, 9am-12pm, The Easter Bunny is COMING to the Cedar Springs Library with special treats and a craft. His helper, Cassie Hall, will be sharing Easter stories every 30 minutes starting at 9:30 am until noon. HOP! HOP on down to 107 N. Main Street! #14

Apr. 9: Take off pounds sensibly (TOPS), a non-profit weight loss support group for men and women, meets every Tuesday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Sand Lake. Your first visit is free so come check out what TOPS can do to help you reach your weight loss goals! Weigh-ins 8:15-9am, meeting starts at 9:15am. Poetry Practice Workshops

Apr. 11,13,16,17: Learn poetry techniques that will help beginners and current poets perfect their works. We’ll cover rhyming and line breaks, simile and metaphor and abstraction and imagery at the workshops. Tyrone Township KDL, Thursday, April 11th at 3:30 pm for 3rd grade through high school. Fish Fry at Courtland-Oakfield UMC

Apr. 12: Courntland-Oakfield United Methodist Church’s annual Fish Fry will be held on Friday, April 12th from 4:30 – 7 pm. Gospel Concert at Gowen Bible

Apr. 13: Please plan to join us for an evening of song and praise at the “Praising Jesus” gospel concert at Gowen Bible Church – Meddler Campus on Saturday, April 13, 6:30-9:00 pm. Groups performing are the Traditional and Country Gospel Singers, the Pryer Sisters, and Riding for the Brand. This is a fundraiser for the 2019 Uganda Mission Trip. Easter Egg-Stravaganza @ Solon Center Wesleyan Church

Apr. 20: An Easter Egg-Stravaganza, a celebration for children 0-12 years will be held on Saturday, April 20th at the Solon Center Wesleyan Church. This year a whopping 10,000 Easter eggs will be available for 3 egg hunts including one for children with special needs. On display will be the Solon Township fire and rescue trucks, a Michigan State Police cruiser with child fingerprinting available & the Kent County Sheriff’s K-9 unit. There’ll be hot dogs, candy, face painting, games & bounce houses. A $1 photo booth will be on site as well. There will also be drawings and prizes, such as Easter baskets, movie gift cards, and 4 bicycles will be given as grand prizes!! Registration begins at 11 am, and the egg hunts begin at Noon.
