In memory of Frederick Taylor.
It’s so hard to believe it’s already been 16 years since you left us. There’s not a day that goes by that we don’t think of you. Dad, we love you so much and wish you were still here with us. You are forever missed.
Love always,
Melissa, Angela, Joanna, Yvonne and your grandkids.

The shop provides organics, nutrients, grow lights and indoor growing expertise with cutting edge equipment. “We are always studying what is new in hydroponics, as well as soilless mix gardening,” said Taylor.

The Cedar Springs Red Hawks opened conference play on Tuesday, August 30, at Coopersville. The Red Hawks challenged the Broncos, moving the ball well around the field. Cedar Springs took an early lead minutes into the game (36:57) when Aaron Dault darted his way through the Bronco’s defense, sending a direct pass over to Kyle Szirovecz, who finished the run and pounded the ball into the net. Kyle Szirovecz scored again minutes into the second half (37:37), when he received a pass from Jon Shaw. Szirovecz used his speed and foot skills to break away from the defenders and blasted the ball past the charging goalie. The final score ended with Cedar Springs 2-Coopersville 0.
On Thursday, September 1, 2011 Forest Hills Eastern Hawks traveled to Cedar Springs to play the Red Hawks. The match proved to be a tight battle as there was no score during the first half. Seconds into the second half, Lee Tompkins sent a ball to Kyle Szirovecz, who broke away from the defense and finessed the ball past the keeper into the right upper 90. The battle continued as Forest Hills answered with a goal of their own. Cedar Springs fans cheered when Robert Klein drilled a penalty kick into the net putting Cedar Springs ahead 2-1. Tensions intensified as Forest Hills maintained constant pressure on the defensive unit of Aaron Dault, Lee Tompkins, Donate Ensley, Bryan Taylor and goalkeeper Kyle Coutchie, who was credited with multiple saves. With minutes left in the game, Forest Hills put in two quick goals that the Red Hawks were unable to answer. At the buzzer, Cedar Springs fell to Forest Hills 2-3. Following the game, Cedar Springs Coach Avink praised his team for their efforts this week. “The guys played well as we entered into conference play this week. As our schedule continues to get tougher, we are excited to see what the team can do on the field.”
Hope to see lots of community support for this year’s varsity soccer team. Come out and cheer on your Red Hawks!

The Main Street Restaurant, 151 S. Main Street in Cedar Springs, celebrated their grand opening on Monday, March 21 with entrée specials, ice cream and cake, balloons and all kinds of goodies for customers.
Owners Ron and Arlene Seabolt first opened their restaurant on Post Drive under the name Lickity Split in 2006, and opened the restaurant in its new location earlier this year. “We’ve gotten 2-1/2 times the business we got at the old location,” noted Ron. “It’s a true welcome to Cedar, it’s been amazing. It’s a gift from God.”
The Seabolts are long-time residents in the area. Ron grew up and graduated from Cedar Springs High School, and Arlene graduated from Rockford. The couple’s three children are also Cedar Springs graduates.
The inside of the new restaurant has a warm, welcoming décor, and includes a beautiful red hawk sculpture created by local metal sculptor Steve Anderson. Arlene said they could not have gotten the inside ready without the help of her brother, Jerry Taylor, father-in-law Jerry Miller, and another friend. “I’m extremely grateful to them,” she said.
The restaurant has an extensive menu of delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, entrees and desserts. The homemade cinnamon rolls are a big hit with customers, and they also have a large variety of ice cream to choose from.
The restaurant gave away prizes every hour Monday, and at the end of the day raffled off two 19-inch flat screen TVs that were won by Bob Johnson and Dan Darling, and a mountain bike that was won by Mayor Charlie Watson. Flora Kosten won free ice cream for a year. Proceeds from the raffle will be given to Cedar Springs Public Schools. To see a complete list of Monday’s winners, check out Main Street’s ad in next week’s Cedar Springs Post!
