Towering sunflowers

N-Sunflower

Jackson Gregory, the son of Peri and David Cordes, of Sand Lake, grew these sunflowers, measuring 11 feet 6 inches from seeds started last June, when he was in Mrs. Moline’s first grade class at McNaughton Elementary. Jackson’s mom said that once the flowers die off, Jackson puts the flower heads on the back fence so that the birds can eat the seeds. Great thinking, Jackson!

If you have sunflower photos you’d like to send us, email them news@cedarspringspost.com.

Giant sunflower

Barbara Kilts, of Solon Township, sent along a photo of her standing next to a giant sunflower in her yard. We don’t know how tall it is, but Barbara is at least 5-foot 8-inches tall, so we know it’s a big one! Barbara planted the sunflower, and now she is drying the seeds for the birds.
