Cedar Springs Police are seeking information on who stole a custom-fitted motorized wheelchair from an address on Sarah Street in Cedar Springs Mobile Estates last week.
The victim told Officer Chad Tucker that he leaves a motorized wheelchair outside at night near his home. He said he heard voices around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, October 5, but was not able to see anyone when he looked outside. The next morning he discovered his wheelchair missing.
Jeffrey Klein recently moved to Cedar Springs from Morley. Due to his size and some medical problems he depends on the wheelchair to get around. The chair would not have been easy to move; it weighs over 500 pounds.
Mr. Klein mentioned that there is a key to operate the motorized wheelchair but someone knowledgeable about this type of wheelchair may have disabled the drive, allowing the wheelchair to be pushed away. The wheelchair is valued at $9,000.00. His wheelchair was designed to hold a large person and was fitted for him.
Anyone with information on the stolen wheelchair is asked to call the Cedar Springs Police Department at 696-1311 or Silent Observer at 616 774-2345.
