Alvin “Butch” Ostrander, 73, of Cedar Springs, died Monday, November 9, 2015 at his home. Alvin was born August 9, 1942 in Evart, Michigan, the son of Aaron and Mildred (Stanton) Ostrander. He enjoyed antique tractors and going to the Old Engine Show in Buckley. Surviving are his children, Barbara Walters, Tammy Ostrander, and Brian Ostrander; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; brother, Harold Bushey. He was preceded in death by four brothers and sisters. The family will greet friends on Friday from 5 to 7 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. There will be no formal service. Private family interment Solon Township Cemetery.

C-OstranderMr. Douglas L. Ostrander, age 76, of Sand Lake, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013. His father died when he was in the eighth grade so Doug, as the oldest child, quit school so he could cut pulp wood to help the family. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War. Doug owned his own trucking company where they delivered both cross country and local. He mostly hauled produce, raw wood products, and Christmas trees. Doug was active at local fairs where he used mules to pull weights. He particularly liked vintage cars and trucks, especially his dream car, a ’37 Ford Coupe. He and Sheila enjoyed traveling especially their trip to Alaska on their Honda Gold Wing. Doug is survived by his wife, Sheila; children, Debra and Duane McIntyre, Marie and Tom Schick, and Heath Pennington; 4 grandchildren; sister, Carolyn and Joe Glendenning, and brothers, Harold and Cindy Bushee, and Alvin Ostrander. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marion, brother, Clyde, and sister, Erma Knoop. The service for Mr. Ostrander was held on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home. Military honors will be under the auspices of the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Interment in Crandall Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Michigan Heart Association, 3940 Peninsular Drive, SE, Suite 180, Grand Rapids, MI 49546 or the American Diabetes Research Foundation, PO Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
