Josephine VanDriel


Mrs. Josephine W. Van Driel, age 96, of Cedar Springs, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2011. She grew up in Spring Lake while living with her grandparents. Josephine attended schools in Grand Rapids and was a 1934 graduate of Union High School. She was very proficient in business courses, especially shorthand which she most recently used. After meeting Otis, they were married in 1939. Josephine was a wonderful wife and mother who made excellent pies, was a Boy Scout leader, and attentive to her children’s needs. She taught her children about respect. They have many special memories of family picnics, picking blueberries, and camping up north and Canada. Josephine looked forward to watching the Tigers and Lawrence Welk.  She is survived by her children, Joanne and Bill Tefft of Otsego, MI, Dale and Melinda Van Driel of Cedar Springs; grandchildren, Tim and Amy Tefft, Ted and Sandy Tefft, Bonnie Tefft, April and Mark McDowell, Amber Lorenz; great-grandchild, Sidney; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Otis on April 3, 1996, her son, Melvin, and her great-grandson, Connor. The service for Mrs. Van Driel will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the Pederson Funeral Home. Interment in Blythefield Memory Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:00 (noon) until the time of service.
