CS Youth wrestlers place in Myway tournaments

Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers traveled to Ionia HS and to Henry Ford HS for Myway tournaments this past weekend.

According to Coach Pike, it was exciting to see how many new wrestlers are winning out on the mat. “We brought 43 wrestlers to Ionia. It’s been exciting to see the improvement in all the kids every week. From the newest wrestler to our most experienced, they are proving to themselves that working hard in practice gives them the edge they need to win out on the mat,” he said.

CSYWC finished the day 1st in number of Pins and total Match Points, 2nd in most Techs and their winning percentage was up 13 percent over last week, 102-59. 

Jon Libera headed to the Detroit/Metro Region to chase the Greights. His fastest pin for the day was 1:00 and he brought home the Silver medal in the 2009-10 77lb class.  

At Ionia HS, Conner Dines had the most pins for the team and was 5th overall with 4 in 4:17. Thomas Prins was 23rd with 3 in 3:16. Hudson Crystal was 52nd with 2 in :59. Ben Streeter was 67th with 2 in 1:33. Nolan Averill was 82nd with 2 in 2:02. Karsen Roelofs was 88th with 2 in 2:17. 

Mason Taylor had the fastest Tech for the team and was 3rd overall with 1:13. Karsen Roelofs was 13th with 2:09. Dillon VanDyke tied for 26th with 3:00. Deegan Pike was 40th with 3:47. Gavyn Byxbe was 41st with 3:50. The team was 2nd overall with 5 in 13:59.

Zach Vu celebrated his birthday and had the Fastest Pin for the team, tying for 1st overall, with :09! Dawson Pike and Thomas Prins tied for 18th with :15. Hudson Crystal tied for 23rd with :16. Taylor Crystal tied for 30th :18. Conner Dines tied for 48th with :22. Karsen Roelofs tied for 61st with :25. We were 1st place overall with 39 pins in 53:09.

Conner Dines scored the most Team Points overall tying for 1st with 25.0, Austin Averill and Spencer Schoenborn tied for 30th with 22.0, Deegan Pike was 25th with 21.5, Kaiden Dreyer tied for 47th with 21.0, Tucker Crystal and Thomas Prins tied for 59th with 20.0, Karsen Roelofs and Dillon VanDyke tied for 77th with 19.5, Nolan Averill tied for 83rd with 19.0, Hudson Crystal and Gabe Gair tied for 92nd with 18.0.

Tucker Dines tied for 14th in overall single Match Points with 18, Dillon VanDyke tied for 19th with 17. Sierra Streeter, Karsen Roelofs, Gavyn Byxbe, Deegan Pike & Mason Taylor tied for 43rd with 16. John Elam and Nolan Averill tied for 67th with 15. Taylor Crystal tied for 96th with 14. The team scored 690 match points for the day. 

In the 2011-13 age group our 4th place finishers were Mason Taylor & Dawson Pike.  Placing 3rd were Sierra Streeter and Jaxon Fitzgerald. Finishing 2nd were Taylor Crystal, Karsen Roelofs, Nolan Averill, Dillon VanDyke. Congratulations goes to Ben Streeter on his 1st place Championship!

In the 2009-10 age group Tucker Dines placed 3rd. Placing 2nd were Cameron Ellison and Chasyn Winchel. Congratulations to our 1st place Champions Zach Vu and Tucker Crystal!

In the 2007-08 divisions placing 3rd was Rory Schoenborn. Our 2nd place finishers were Deegan Pike, Kaiden Dreyer and Gavyn Byxbe. Congratulations to our 1st place Champions Austin Averill, Spencer Schoenborn, Conner Dines, Thomas Prins and Hudson Crystal!

In the 2005-06 age groups Jack Sherburn placed 3rd and Gabe Gair took the 1st place Championship in the 112/119lb class!

In the 2003-04 divisions Joey Meade and Logan Troupe brought home 4th place medals. Bringing home 3rd place was Carter Falan. Maston Wood brought home the 2nd place medal in the 170lb class.

Next week the team travels to Zeeland East for a team duals tournament; Big Rapids to chase the Greights medal; and West Ottawa for the West Region competition.

Youth wrestlers win Greights, Monster medals

On Sunday, January 14, CSYWC’s Maston Wood traveled to Orchard View. He joined 473 other contenders for the first MYWAY Greights tournament of the season. Powering through 3 matches in the 2003-04 170lb class, he brought home the custom Silver Greights medal in the shape of the West Region. The next Greights tournament will be held in the Detroit Metro Region on January 21st.  

The club also joined 33 other teams at the 2018 Central Montcalm Swarm Invitational. They took 1st place overall in Most Pins with 40 in 52.18, 1st place in Match Points with 466 and were ranked 10th with 67 wins, 57 losses. Coaches were kept busy by 38 grapplers fighting it out across 8 mats for the chance to go home with that 1st place Monster Medal. 

“It’s great to see all the kids hard work and dedication at practice turn into such great results at the tournaments. Our kids show tremendous sportsmanship and are a joy to coach,” said Coach Kevin Fitzgerald.   

In the 2011-13 division Ethan Trompen placed 3rd and Sierra Streeter placed 2nd in the 43lb class. Taylor Crystal placed 4th and Nolan Averill placed 3rd in the 46lb class. Jaxon Fitzgerald placed 2nd in the 61/64lb class. Ben Streeter placed 1st in the 67lb class.

In the 2009-10 division Elijah Elam placed 2nd in the 49lb class. Caden Troupe placed 3rd in the 55lb class. Tucker Crystal placed 1st in the 58lb class. Chasyn Winchel placed 1st in the 67lb class. Blake Falan placed 1st in the 71lb class. Rory Schoenborn placed 1st in the 80lb class. Gavyn Byxbe placed 2nd in the 85lb class. Hudson Crystal placed 1st in the 90lb class.

In the 2005-06 division Gabe Gair placed 3rd in the 112lb class. Wyatt Cooper placed 1st in the 158/183lb class. 

In the 2003-04 division Ashly Erxleben placed 4th in the 107lb class. Carter Falan placed 1st in the 114lb class. Logan Troupe placed 4th in the 122lb class.

Caden Troupe was 2nd overall in Most Pins in the Least Time with 5 in 5:05. Chasyn Winchel was 4th with 3 in 1:29. Jon Libera was 8th with 3 in 2:19. Hudson Crystal was 9th with 3 in 2:22. Alex Hanes was 30th with 2 in :54. Austin Averill was 33rd with 2 in 1:01. Tucker Crystal and Ben Streeter tied for 43rd with 2 in 1:44. Sierra Streeter was 55th with 2 in 2:34. Gavyn Byxbe was 66th with 2 in 3:20. Rory Schoenborn tied for 75th with 2 in 4:02. Taylor Crystal was 77th with 2 in 4:04. 

Ethan Trompen had the Fastest Pin for the team and 3rd fastest overall with :08. Jon Libera was 6th with :10. Alex Hanes was 8th with :11. Ben Streeter was 23rd with :20. Chasyn Winchel was 34th with :23. Austin Averill & Hudson Crystal were 41st with :25. Tucker Crystal was 61st with :32. Gavyn Byxbe was 69th with :34. Sierra Streeter was 85th with :39. Zach Vu was 94th with :42.

Hudson Crystal was 2nd overall in Most Team Points with 24.0, Rory Schoenborn was 10th with 23.5, Blake Falan was 11th with 23.0, Tucker Crystal was 12th with 22.0, Carter Falan was 19th with 21.0, Cade Troupe and Chasyn Winchel were 22nd with 20.0 and Deegan Pike was 59th with 15.5. Nolan Averill scored the Most Total Match Points for the team and was 6th overall with 41. Rory Schoenborn was 8th with 37, Sierra Streeter was 10th with 35, Carter Falan was 16th with 31, Deegan Pike was 23rd with 29, Cade Troupe was 45th with 23, Taylor Crystal was 58th with 20, Jon Libera was 71st with 18, Dawson Pike was 79th with 16, Tucker Crystal was 94th with 14 and Ashly Erxleben was 107th with 13. The team will be travelling to Ionia on January 21st.

CS Youth wrestlers win medals

CSYWC traveled to Grandville HS Sunday January 7th to compete in the first MYWAY Open and Novice tournament of the new year in the West Region. 

We brought 26 grapplers to compete alongside 630 others. Five wrestlers competed for the first time this season and two—Kaiden Dreyer and Joseph Reynhout—competed in their first ever matches. The team finished 6th in Most Pins with 21 in 30:45, and 10th in Total Match Points with 279, ending the day 44-48. 

According to Coach Scott Marsman, the kids came back from Christmas break and wrestled with a lot of determination and heart. “We are all very proud of how they handle themselves on and off the mat,” he said. “We are looking forward to a very exciting year with them.”

Spencer Schoenborn topped the day off taking 1st in Most Pins in the Least Time with 5 pins in 7:44. Zach Vu had 3 in 2:55 taking the 27th spot, Rory Schoenborn was 38th with 3 in 5:27, Blake Falan was 57th with 2 in :48, Alex Hanes took the 70th spot with 2 in 1:23.

Carter Falan had the Fastest Tech for the team and was 21st overall with 2:52.

Zach Vu had the 4th overall fastest pin for the day with :09! His second fastest pin was :17, tying for 21st. Blake Falan tied for 33rd with :20, Rory Schoenborn was 39th with :22 and Alex Hanes had the 100th fastest with :34.

Spencer Schoenborn scored the most team points with 22, tying for 29th overall. Carter Falan had 21.5, Zach Vu had 20, Alex Hanes scored 15 and Rory Shoenborn scored 14.

Karsen Roelofs scored the most single match points for the team with 18-11th overall (35 points for the day), Kaiden Dreyer (31 total) and Carter Falan (24 total) tied for 55th with 15 points.

Taking the 4th place medals was Jaxon Fitzgerald, Rory Schoenborn, Blake Falan, Gavyn Byxbe and Gabe Gair. Finishing 3rd was Brycen Alber, Alex Hanes and Spencer Schoenborn. 2nd place medalists were Ben Streeter and Maston Wood. Our 1st place Champions were Zach Vu, Jon Libera and Carter Falan. 

Next week the team will compete at Kent City and Central Montcalm.

CS Youth wrestlers place at Rockford


Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers that won at the Rockford Open and Novice tournament last weekend.

CSYWC had 39 wrestlers head to Rockford to compete in the RYWC Open & Novice tournament Sunday, December 17th joining 72 teams from all over the state. There were 528 wrestlers looking for the top spots in their weight classes.

“We had lots of wrestlers out today and we saw a lot of great matches. We had a handful of wrestlers step on the mat to compete for the very first time and they wrestled very well. We went 68-63 today but had 26 medal. I can’t wait to see how everyone progresses throughout the season,” said Coach Jake Marsman.

Taking home the 4th place medals for the team were Brycen Alber, Taylor Crystal, Cameron Ellison, Zach Vu, Gavyn Byxbe, Urijah Bates, Deegan Pike and Wyatt Cooper.

The 3rd place finishers were Logan Galinis, Jaxon Fitzgerald, Tucker Crystal, Dakota Winchell, Brenden Johnson and Rory Shoenborn.

The 2nd place grapplers were Jonathan Libera, Jayce Karafa, Hudson Crystal, Blake Falan, Thomas Prins and Conner Dines.

This Sunday’s CSYWC Champions were Ben Streeter, Tucker Dines, Nolan Myers, Carter Falan, Logan Troupe and Maston Wood. Congratulations, wrestlers!

Deegan Pike had the most pins for the team and was 25th over all with 3 pins in 4:30. Conner Dines was 32nd with 3 in 5:41. Cameron Ellison was 57th with 2 in 1:44. Carter Falan was 100th with 2 in 3:54. Maston Wood was 18th in fastest Technical Fall (wrestling’s version of the mercy rule) winning 17-2 in 2:41. Hudson Crystal tied for 41st winning 16-0 in 4:30. Conner Dines had the fastest pin for the team and tied for 15th with :18, Alex Hanes tied for 60th with :32, Ben Streeter tied for 68th with :35 and Cameron Ellison tied for 98th with :44. Carter Falan and Logan Troupe tied at 21st over all with the most team points for the day with 22.0, Tucker Dines tied for 40th with 20.0, Deegan Pike and Blake Falan tied for 64th with 18.0 and Conner Dines tied for 80th with 17.0. Conner Dines and Alex Hanes tied for 13th with 18 single match points. Maston Wood tied for 22nd with 17, Hudson Crystal tied for 39th with 16, Gavyn Byxbe and Taylor Crystal tied for 82nd with 14. Allendale Falcon’s open & novice

Twenty-three CSYWC wrestlers headed to Allendale Sunday December 10 to compete in the Allendale Falcon’s Open and Novice Tournament with 301 other grapplers.

Carter Falan had the most pins in the fastest time for the team and was 3rd over all with 4 in 5:23, Deegan Pike was 11th over all with 3 in 3:53, Gavyn Byxbe was 18th over all with 3 in 6:09, Spencer Shoenborn was 30th with 2 in 1:10 and Brenden Johnson was 50th with 2 in 2:25.

Maston Wood had the fastest Tech for the team and was 9th over all with 1 in 2:33.

Carter Falan had the fastest pin for the team and tied for 6th with 1 in :15, Spencer Shoenborn was 10th with :18, Carter Falan tied for 13th with :20, Deegan Pike tied for 59th with :39 and tied for 85th with :47. Spencer Shoenborn and Carter Falan also tied for 96th with :52.

Gavyn Byxbe was top for the team and 20th overall with 20.0 Team Points, Deegan Pike was 27th with 19.0, Carter Falan tied for 31st with 18.0, Spencer Shoenborn tied for 57th with 15.0, Blake Falan tied for 76th with 13.0 and Maston Wood was also 109th with 9.5.

Maston Wood was 2nd overall with 20 Single Match Points, Jaxon Fitzgerald tied for 41st with 14, Logan Troupe and Maston Wood tied for 59th with 13 and Jaxon Fitzgerald tied for 70th with 12.

In Total Match Points Maston Wood was 2nd over all with 47, Jaxon Fitzgerald tied for 35th with 26 and Logan Troupe tied for 61st with 21.

Placing 4th in the Open Division, 2011-13 40lb class was Brycen Alber and in the 03/04 122lb class was Logan Troupe.

Placing 3rd in the Novice division, 09/10 97lb class was Zachary Vu. In the 07/08 63lb class was Spencer Shoenborn and in the 110lb class was Thomas Prins. In the Open Division 09/10 combined 77/82lb class was Jon Libera and in the 07/08 71lb class was Blake Falan.

Placing 2nd in the Novice Division, 07/08 63lb class was Deegan Pike. In the Open division, 09/10 72lb class was Logan Galinis and in the 03/04 combined 155/170lb class was Maston Wood.

Placing 1st and taking home the Championship trophy in the Novice division, 09/10 combined 67/72lb class was Tanner Wood and in the 07/08 90lb class was Brenden Johnson. In the Open Division, 2011-13 61lb class was Jaxon Fitzgerald, in the combined 64/67 class was Jayce Karafa, in the 07/08 combined 80/85lb class was Gavyn Byxbe and in the 03/04 114lb class was Carter Falan.

Montabella Open Tournament

CSYWC had 4 wrestlers head to Blanchard Sunday December 10th to compete in the Montabella Open Tournament. They joined 26 area teams and 158 other wrestlers for a full day of mat time.

Sierra Streeter had the fastest pin time for the team and tied for 67th over all with 1:15.

Cole Haack had the most single match points for the team and tied for 54th with 9. Sierra & Bryson Streeter tied for 69th with 8.

Sierra Streeter had the highest total match points for the team and tied for 50th with 13. Cole Haack tied for 66th with 11. Ben & Bryson Streeter tied for 81st with 8.

Bryson Streeter had 6.0 team points, Sierra Streeter and Cole Haack each had 4.0.

In the 2011-13 43lb class Sierra Streeter placed 2nd, in the 67lb class Ben Streeter placed 2nd, in the 09/10 combined 46/49lb class Bryson Streeter placed 4th and in the 03/04 114lb class Cole Haack placed 2nd.

“It has been a great start to the season,” said Coach Scott. “We have many kids brand new to wrestling and everyone has been working really hard in the practice room. It showed on Sunday. We could see a marked improvement from the week before. We could not be more proud of them!”

What an exciting weekend for CS Youth wrestlers! The competition was off the charts, the Parade of Champions was exhilarating, we had great photo ops and autographs with NCAA’s Division 1 Champions Gabe Dean and Kyle Dake and in true Red Hawk fashion we cheered on the wrestlers we’ve come to know from all over the state through this great sport.

“Making it to the State finals as a youth is one of the most gratifying accomplishments you could ever achieve,” said Coach Scott Marsman. “They will never forget this time and look back on it as the beginning of the journey they take to reach their peak potential. The pride we have as coaches and parents for these amazing kids in their sportsmanship, strength and dignity is exemplified whenever they step on a mat. It will be exciting to see where they are at this time next year.”

Out of 301 teams and a total of 2947 wrestlers, CSYWC came in 88th in pins with 10 in 19:32, 80th in Match Points with 186 and finished the weekend 28W-25L, 167th over all.

In the 2010-2012 49lb class Tucker Crystal placed 3rd after 6 matches with 3 pins in a total time of 6:11, losing one and winning two by decisions of 3-0 and 7-4. He scored 33 match points over two days.

In the 2008-2009 64lb class Blake Falan wrestled 4 matches, winning his first and third matches by decisions of 5-1 and 4-0, scoring 10 match points over the course of the day.

In the 2006-2007 55lb class Brandson Wood wrestled 2 matches scoring 6 match points. In the 80lb class Hudson Crystal had 5 matches with a pin in 2:36, winning his third and fourth matches by major decisions of 15-2 and 8-0 and scored 35 match points. In the 150lb class Wyatt Cooper wrestled 2 matches and scored 2 match points.

In the 2005 80lb class Tommy Stevens placed 6th after 6 matches with a Tech Fall in 2:40, winning his second and third matches by decisions of 6-5 and 8-6, scoring a total of 29 match points over two days.

In the 2004 105lb class Carter Falan wrestled 4 matches, had 2 pins in a total time of 4:09 and scored 15 match points. Ben Brunner wrestled 3 matches, had 1 pin in :47 and scored 2 match points. Logan Troupe wrestled 3 matches, winning his second match 6-4 and scored 8 match points for the day.

In the 2003 85lb class Trevor Marsman placed 7th, wrestled 5 matches with 2 pins in a total time of 5:12, winning his fifth match by a decision of 6-2 and scored 31 match points over two days.

In the 2002 95lb class Andreew VanGessel wrestled 2 matches and scored 7 match points.

In the 2002-2004 Girls Division, 122lb class Ashly Erxleben wrestled 2 matches, scoring 6 match points. In the150lb class Ariana Meyers placed 2nd after 2 matches, had the fastest pin for the team with :37 and scored 2 match points.

CS Youth wrestlers at Border Wars

Three CSYWC grapplers joined 334 others to try to win a plate sized Monster Medal at the first Border Wars tournament of the season in Brighton, Mich. on Saturday, March 25. Coached by their dads, the boys experienced some great competition from all over the state.

In the 2008-2009 49lb class, Tucker Crystal placed 3rd after 3 matches, scoring 6 match points. In the combined 67/72lb class, Jonathon Libera placed 4th after 3 matches, scoring 6 match points.

In the 2006-2007 80lb class Hudson Crystal wrestled 3 matches, going 1-2 for the day and scoring 7 match points.

CS Youth wrestlers were some of 356 first and second year wrestlers that competed for top spots at the Novice Championships in Saline, Mich. This is the third year the club has travelled to this tournament and it is a fantastic way for the novice wrestler to end their year. The eight local wrestlers finished the day 21-10.

“I’m really proud of these kids. They are out here every week learning new moves and driving themselves just as hard as the more experienced wrestlers. They are using that knowledge from those tough losses and pushing themselves to win matches. I can’t wait to get them back on the mat next year!” said Coach Jake Marsman.

The team placed 10th out of 76 in Most Pins/Least Time with 10 pins in 14:22. Chasyn Winchel was 41st over all with 2 in :44. Dakota Winchel placed 43rd over all with 2 in :57. Deegan Pike was 64th over all with 2 in 2:55. Cade Troupe placed 93rd over all with 1 in :42. CSYWC was 17th in over all match points with 106. Wyatt Dickinson came in 2nd over all in Single Match Points with 19. Cole Haack was 44th over all with 13.

In the 2010-2012 55lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 1st after 4 matches.

In the 2008-2009 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 3rd after 7 matches.

In the 2006-2007 110lb class Dakota Winchel placed 3rd after 4 matches.

In the 2004-2005 100lb class Cole Haack placed 1st after 2 matches. In the 105lb class, Gabe Gair placed 1st after 3 matches, 54th over all in Most Pins/Least Time with 2 in 5:45.

Last weekend, March 18-19, 662 area wrestlers traveled to Caledonia High School for the MYWAY West Regional Tournament. CSYWC competed with 50 other teams to determine who will head to the State Championships in Lansing March 31-April 2. Of the 23 kids from CS Youth Wrestling Club, 17 placed in the top 6. Of those 17, 12 took a top four position and qualified for State. They were 12th over all in Most Pins/Least Time with 17 in 27:31; 6th in Match Points with 301; and finished the weekend 41W-37L.

“As a culmination of the year’s hard work, it was exciting to see 12 of our wrestlers take the top spots to head to the State Championship,” Coach Goike stated after practice Tuesday evening. “So many times kids are burned out by this time. These wrestlers are still going strong and ready to face the next challenge.”

In the 2010-2012 40lb class, Sierra Streeter placed 5th after 4 matches. In the 49lb class Tucker Crystal was the Regional Champion after 4 matches with the final match a :20 pin. He was 3rd over all in Most Pins in Least time with 4 in 4:35 and tied for 21st fastest pin with :20. In the 55lb class Jaxon Fitzgerald placed 6th after 4 matches and Benjamin Streeter placed 5th after 4 matches.

In the 2008-2009 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 5th after 6 matches. In the 64lb class Blake Falan placed 3rd after 6 matches.

In the 2006-2007 55lb class, Brandson Wood placed 3rd after 3 matches. In the 80lb class Hudson Crystal placed 5th after 6 matches. In the 110lb class Dakota Winchel placed 5th after 4 matches. In the 150lb class Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd after 4 matches.

In the 2005 80lb class, Tommy Stevens placed 3rd after 3 matches.

In the 2004 105lb class, Carter Falan was the Regional Champion after 2 matches. Ben Brunner placed 2nd after 2 matches. Logan Troupe placed 3rd after 2 matches.

In the 2003 85lb class, Trevor Marsman placed 2nd after 3 matches.

In the 2002 95lb class, Andrew VanGessel placed 2nd after 3 matches. In the 195lb class, Landen Totten was the Regional Champion after 2 matches.

CS Youth wrestlers at Greights competition

Twenty-three Cedar Springs Youth wrestlers competed alongside 107 other teams last weekend for the final regular season and last MYWAY Greights competition. Almost 700 grapplers competed for the final piece of this year’s Greights medal and a chance to be Champion for the last West Region regular season tournament.

CSYWC finished 10th in match points with 188. Deegan pike scored 31, Wyatt Dickinson, 20; Chasyn Winchel & Wyatt Cooper, 19; Carter Falan, 16; Tucker Crystal, 13; Bllake Falan & Cade Troupe each scored 9, David DeWeese and Bryson Streeter each scored 7, Logan Troupe, 6; Daniel Vaughn, Remington DeWeese, and William Dickinson, 5; Matthew Vaughn & Landen Totten, 4; Hudson Crystal, Gavyn Byxbe & Dakota Winchel scored 2 each. We finished the day 37-35 and 7th in pins with 17 in 25:51.

According to Coach Goike, “Its good to see the kids peaking just in time for Regionals this week! They are really pushing themselves in practice and are not showing any signs of burn out. They are ready for the strong competition at Caledonia!”

Wyatt Cooper came in 25th over all and first on the team with 3 pins in 4:11. David DeWeese was 51st over all and 2nd on the team with 2 in :40. He also had the 4th fastest pin of the day in  :13! Awesome job, David! Wyatt Dickinson tied for 12th in most single match points with 18. Deegan Pike had the most match points for the day and tied for 40th over all with 31. David DeWeese had the top fastest pins for the team with :13 and :27, William Dickinson was 3rd with :34, Landen Totten was 4th with :40 and Wyatt Cooper was 5th with :41.

In the 2008-2012 Girls division, 40lb class Sierra Streeter placed 2nd after 2 matches.

In the 2002-2004 Girls division, 122lb class Ashly Erxleben placed 1st after 2 matches.

In the 2010-2012 All division, 52lb class Tucker Crystal placed 4th after 4 matches. In the 58lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 2nd after 4 matches.

In the 2008-2009 Open division, 64lb class Blake Falan placed 3rd after 3 matches. In the 72lb class Jonathan Libera placed 3rd after 2 matches. In the Novice division, 52lb class Caden Troupe placed 4th after 3 matches. In the 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 3rd after 4 matches.

In the 2006-2007 Open division, 100lb class Matthew Vaughn placed 2nd after 2 matches. In the 150lb class Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd after 4 matches. In the Novice division, 130lb class David DeWeese placed 1st after 2 matches.

In the 2004-2005 Open division, 105lb class Carter Falan placed 1st after 3 matches.

In the 2002-2003 Open division, 195lb class Landen Totten placed 1st after 2 matches.

Cedar Springs Youth Wrestling Club took 22 wrestlers to the Northview Open & Novice Tournament Sunday, March 5, 2017. Nine medaled, and they finished the day 46-35, competing against 633 wrestlers on 77 teams. CSYWC came in 6th with over all pins with 19 in 30:33, and 6th in match points with 294.

“As the season winds down, the competition gets tougher,” said Coach Bryan Goike. “Everyone has honed their skills, they are getting ready to compete in Regionals and State in a few weeks. This is the time where competition is serious on the mat and to work harder than you ever have at practice to prove to yourself that your dedication to this sport is worth it.”

Deegan Pike came in 11th out of 655 wrestlers in number of pins in shortest combined time with 4 in 5:22. He also had the fastest pin for the team with :18! Dakota Winchel was 13th with 4 in 6:16 and tied for second fastest pin with :24, along with Jayce Karafa. Brandson Wood was 28th in over all match points with 34, Jonathan Libera shared the 61st spot with 28, Tommy Stevens and Carter Falan shared the 90th spot with 25. Sierra Streeter had the third fastest pin for the team with :26. Bryson Streeter scored the most points in a single match for the team (48th over all) with 15, Carter Falan was second (73rd over all) with 14, Sierra Streeter was third (105th over all) with 13.

In the 2010-2012 All division, 58lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 1st after 2 matches. In the 2008-2009 Open division, 67lb class Johnathan Libera placed 3rd after 4 matches. In the 2008-2009 Novice division, 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 1st after 4 matches. In the 2006-2007 Open division, 55/59lb class Brandson Wood placed 3rd after 4 matches. In the 150lb class Wyatt Cooper placed 1st after 2 matches. In the Novice 110lb class Dakota Winchel placed 2nd after 4 matches. In the 2003-2004 Open division, 85lb class Tommy Stevens placed 2nd after 3 matches. In the 105lb class Carter Falan placed 1st after 3 matches and Logan Troupe placed 3rd after 4 matches.

At the annual Lakeview Open Tournament, CSYWC had 12 kids compete with 269 other wrestlers. They finished the day 24-20.

In the 2010-2012 Open 40lb division Sierra Streeter placed 4th after 4 matches that had the crowd cheering her on every time. In the 43lb class, Dawson Pike placed 4th after 4 matches. In the combined 58/61lb division Jayce Karafa placed 4th & Ben Streeter placed 5th.

In the 2008-2009 Open 58lb division Deegan Pike placed 3rd after 5 matches. He had  3 pins in 2:41, 2nd fastest pin for the team with :16 and 9th over all in fastest total pin time.

In the 2006-2007 Open 75lb division Remington DeWeese placed 4th after 2 matches. In the 130lb division David DeWeese placed 1st after 2 matches. He also had the fastest pin of the day with :10! In the 150lb division Wyatt Cooper took 1st place after 2 matches. He had the third fastest pin of the day with :20!

At the annual GVSU Open & Novice tournament there were 637 wrestlers. CSYWC ended the day 13-26 but had some amazing pins.

Elijah Artecki placed 2nd in the 2006-2007 Novice 100lb division after 2 matches. Matthew Vaughn placed 3rd in the Open 110lb division after 3 matches. Ricco Artecki placed 4th in the 2004-2005 Novice 75lb division after 3 matches. Tommy Stevens placed 1st in the 2004-2005 Open 85lb division after 3 matches. Carter Falan placed 5th in the 105lb division after 4 matches. Logan Troupe placed 5th in the 100lb division.

Trevor Marsman placed 1st in the 2002-2003 Open 85lb division.

“While we didn’t have as many top place finishers, we had some of the best competition yet this year. Every loss is a learning experience that makes you a better wrestler. It is a pleasure to watch these kids wrestle every week,” said Coach Scott Marsman.

On Sunday, January 23, CSYWC joined 66 other teams to participate in the West Region’s Lowell Open & Novice Tournament. Twenty-nine CS Youth Wrestlers competed with 530 others to take the top spots in 101 classes. The team had 58 wins and 43 losses. The team came in 2nd in match points with 395, took 2nd place with number of pins/techs in shortest amount of time with 36 in 66:52.

“It is fantastic to see the improvement the wrestlers are making every week. Every wrestler remembers their first pin,” said Coach Bryan Goike.

Dawson Pike tied Colten Jackson from Saranac WC for 1st over all with fastest pin in :09. Thomas Prins had his very first pin in :34. Ricco Artecki had his very first pin in 2:26. William Dickinson came in 4th over all with :14. Carter Falan came in 12th with :22. Tommy Stevens tied for 21st with :31. Deegan Pike & Thomas Prins tied for 24th with :34.

Carter Falan had the fastest total pins for the team and came in 2nd over all with 4 in 4:12. Trevor Marsman took 1st over all in fastest techs with 2 in 6:24. William Dickinson came in 12th over all with 3 in 2:48. Tucker Crystal came in 27th over all with 3 in 5:22. Dakota Winchel came in 38th over all with 3 in 9:45. Tommy Stevens came in 61st over all with 2 in 1:37. Daniel Vaughn came in 88th over all with 2 in 3:12.

Trevor Marsman led the team in match points with 40 total (10th over all.) Dawson Pike & Wyatt Dickinson had 32, Hudson Crystal had 30, Blake Falan had 27, Deegan Pike had 26, Elijah Artecki had 21, Tucker Crystal had 20, Logan Troupe had 19, Gavyn Byxbe had 18, Carter Falan had 17, Jayden Mull & Daniel Vaughn had 14, William Dickinson had 12, Dakota Winchel had 11.

In the 2010-2012 Open division, 43lb-B class Dawson Pike placed 2nd after 4 matches, Wyatt Dickinson placed 4th after 4 matches. In the 52lb class Tucker Crystal placed 1st after 3 matches. In the combined 58/61lb class, Chasyn Winchel placed 2nd after 3 matches.
