Jan 28: 2nd Chance will be having Cowboy Church on Sunday, January 28th at 6 pm. It will be at 2nd Chance School at 810 – 17 Mile Rd. Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile and Olin Lakes Rd). Music and ministry will be shared by the group, North Country Band, who will share their musical talent. Invite your family and friends. Cowboy Church will be every 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month. Each service will have different people sharing God’s word and music. Cowboy Church will introduce you to 2nd Chance and its vision. Make your own Valentine Cards

Feb. 5: Make your own valentine cards and other items on February 5th with Cedar Springs Area Parks and Recreation. Classes are $20 and include the supplies to make the card other than adhesives. The Art of Papermaking

Feb. 6: Back by popular demand! Create unique handcrafted paper with artistic flair and style. Auditions for Actors del Arte

Feb. 8: Actors del Arte Ensemble will be holding auditions and casting calls for the upcoming show “Saw Dust and Magic” a comedy/drama about the early circus life of the 1900’s. Valentine’s Snowshoeing at HCNC

Feb. 10: Bundle up this February for a candle lit snow shoe walk! You will make your way on a guided walk to our bonfire, where you will enjoy refreshments and S’mores, before heading back out on your walk. If the snow decides not to show, this will be a trail walk. Remember to get goodies for your sweetheart at our bake sale. All ages welcome. Snow shoe equipment provided. Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser

Jan. 12: Help support Makhella’s Service Dog journey. Kayla has recently been diagnosed with a muscle deficiency in her eyes leaving her with low vision and near legally blind which causes difficulty in simple activities of daily living. Along with Kayla’s cognitive impairment from a tragic birth causes her to struggle with daily activities. As a vibrant 20 year old, Kayla is trying to be as independent as possible in her journey through adulthood. Doctors and Therapist both have suggested a Service Dog. So her journey begins… please support her journey by coming to Big Boy of Cedar Springs for an all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner fundraiser on Friday, January 12, 5pm to 8pm. $12 per adult, $10 per child. Jan. 20: The Cedar Springs Lions Club’s Pancake Breakfast will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, Feb. 17, Mar. 24 and Apr. 21 from 7 – 11 am at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church, on the corner of Main and Church. $5 per person, children under 10 eat free. Owl Walk at HCNC

Jan. 26: “Twit twoo” It’s time for our yearly Owl Walk! Local naturalist and expert Greg Swanson is back to introduce you to owl biology! Greg will start with an indoor presentation, then we will all head outdoors to see if we can observe these perfect predators. Maybe one will even stop to say ‘hello’ as you listen to Greg call for them. Friday, January 26th from 6 pm to 8 pm. This is a 12 year old and up event. Please flashlights ONLY AS NEEDED. Explore MCC’s Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails

Montcalm Community College’s Kenneth J. Lehman Nature Trails are open to the public from dawn until dusk, 365 days a year. There is no charge to visit these beautiful trails winding through forests, grasslands and wetlands. More than four miles of trails are marked with numbered trail posts and maps are available at most major trail heads. 2nd Chance Christmas Tree Fundraiser

Dec. 7-10: Support 2nd Chance School by purchasing a beautiful fresh Christmas Tree. Christmas trees will be available for sale, Thursday and Friday 4-8 pm, Saturday 1-8 pm, Sunday noon-5 pm, at 2nd Chance School, 810 17 Mile Road Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile Road and Olin Lakes Road, 4 miles west of 131).  We have scotch pine, blue spruce, black hills spruce, and balsam fir. Sizes are 3’ – 10’ tall. There are also a few 24” Frasier Fir decorated wreaths for sale. Support 2nd Chance by purchasing a Christmas tree. Christmas Concert and Dance Extravaganza

Dec. 9,10: Join an annual Christmas tradition of watching local talent perform at Kent Theatre, 8 N. Main St., Cedar Springs! Saturday, December 9th  will be the Christmas Concert from 3 to 5 pm. Bring the whole family for a fun night out listening to holiday songs.  On December 10th the Annual Dance Extravaganza will start at 3 pm. Dec. 16: North Kent Presbyterian Church will host its 20th Annual Christmas Cookie Walk Saturday morning, December 16th from 9:00 until gone. Michigan Blood Drive

August 15: A Michigan Blood Drive will be held on August 15th at the Cedar Springs Methodist Church from 12:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Members of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club will be grilling hot dogs for all who attempt to donate. Chips and a drink will be included. Blood supplies have been down. It only takes an hour to help save 3 people’s life. The Blood Center thanks all the people that donate at the Cedar Springs blood drive. #32

Waterslide Day at CS Library

Aug. 18: Join us for a fun time splashing down the waterslide and bouncing in the bounce houses! Cedar Springs Community Library on Friday, August 18th from 11 am to 1 pm. Free Family Event

Volunteer Day at HCNC

Apr. 29: Volunteers are what makes Howard Christensen Nature Center happen. We always have a lot more work to be done than manpower to do it. Come on out and give us a hand anytime by calling the office. HCNC’s annual Spring work day, Saturday, April 29th all day, is a great opportunity to help us plant flowers, clean up trails from winter and get ready for another great summer of events. Hunter Safety Class at HCNC

May 9: Howard Chirstensen Nature Center will hold Hunter Safety Class starting on Tuesday, May 9th from 5-8 pm, Thursday, May 11th from 5-8 pm and Saturday, May 13th from 9-1 pm. Join Deputy Scott Cook and Director Dave all three days for our Spring Hunters Safety Class. Apr. 15: An Easter Egg-Stravaganza, a celebration for children will be held on Saturday, April 15th at the Solon Center Wesleyan Church. There’ll be hot dogs, candy, and an Easter Egg Hunt with 4,000 candy filled Easter Eggs! On display will be a Solon Township fire truck, Michigan State & Kent County Sheriff police cruisers and some hot rods. Registration begins at 11 am, and egg hunts will take place for all children 10 years and under beginning at Noon. Two bikes donated by Meijer will be given as grand prizes!! Apr. 15: The 7th Annual Easter Hunt with Pancake Brunch for Howard Christensen Nature Center will be held on Saturday, April 15th from noon to 2 pm. Brunch is served from noon to 2 pm and the Easter Egg Hunt begins promptly for all ages at 2 pm. Brunch is $5 per person or $15 per family of 4 or more and includes the Easter Egg Hunt. CS Players perform at the Kent “Zombies, Werewolves and Aliens, oh my!”

Mar. 24-26: The Cedar Springs Community Players will be presenting three Sci-Fi Fantasy comedy one-act plays on March 24, 25, and 26 at the Kent Theatre. “Zombies, Werewolves and Aliens, oh my!” kicks off the 2017 fantasy-themed season. The three short comedies are set in the Old West, modern-day suburbia, and outer space in the future and feature hilarious encounters with an assortment of monsters and aliens. Apr. 4,13,19,24: The need is urgent at this time! The Literacy Center of West Michigan has scheduled  information sessions for prospective volunteer tutors. These sessions last one hour. It allows persons interested in becoming volunteer tutors to find out more about the Literacy Center and its programs. At the end of the session there will be a chance to sign up for tutor training. Sessions are Tuesday, April 4th at 10 am, Thursday, April 13th at 2 pm, Wednesday, April 19th at 6 pm and Monday, April 24th at 10 am. By training people to be tutors, the Center can offer one-on-one reading help to adults asking for assistance in reading or English as a Second Language (ESL). MCC hosts its annual Chicago trip

Mar. 25: Montcalm Community College offers a March 25th bus trip to Chicago. Registration for MCC students is $24.20, which includes a $2.20 service fee, and it is $45.30 for non-students, which includes a $3.30 service fee. The ticket covers the cost of transportation, and participants must pay for their food and for their entry fees to attractions. Participants have time to visit one or two attractions during the trip. Available attractions include the Adler Planetarium, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Field Museum of Natural History, the Museum of Science & Industry and Shedd Aquarium. The bus leaves MCC’s Sidney campus at 6:45 a.m., picks up passengers at the Greenville Wal-Mart parking lot at 7:15 a.m. and returns to MCC at 10:30 p.m. To register, visit www.eventbrite.com/e/chicago-trip-tickets-28891469162.
