Senior Fitness Classes

Oct.17,22,24,28,30: One out of three older adults fall each year and these falls are the leading cause of emergency department admissions. Falls can be a significant obstacle to healthy aging. There’s good news, too: physical activity has proven to help prevent falls. Senior Neighbors is pleased to be partnering with Cedar Springs Public Schools in offering a new fitness class in Cedar Springs! Open to anyone age 60 or older, these classes will focus on endurance, flexibility, strengthening, balance, and having fun. Classes began Tuesday, September 10th and will be offered each Tuesday and Thursday at 9:30 am in the board room at the Cedar Springs Public Schools hilltop building. Come when you can, do what you can do! Pre-registration is not required. These classes are available through the Kent County Senior Millage- donations are accepted, or use your Silver&Fit benefit! Praise the Lord at Cowboy Church

Oct. 20: 2^nd Chance will be having Cowboy Church on Sunday, October 20^th  at 6 pm. It will be at 2^nd Chance School at 810 – 17 Mile Rd. Cedar Springs (corner of 17 Mile and Olin Lakes Rd). Music and Ministry will be shared by the musically gifted Gitchel family who will share their musical talent and gospel lessons. Invite your family and friends. Cowboy Church will be once a month for the fall. Each service will have different people sharing God’s word and music. Cowboy Church will introduce you to 2nd Chance and its vision. Nov. 2: The Howard City VFW will be holding their Fall Craft Bazaar on Sat., Nov. 2nd from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Post Home located at 1001 S. Ensley (better known as old 131 or Federal Hwy) in Howard City. We have lots of vendors eager to show you their items and help you get a little early Christmas shopping done. Our kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch for a nominal fee and we will have door prizes, a raffle, lots of smiles and fun and hope to see you there. May 17-19,24,25: The Cedar Springs Community Players is pleased to present “Burr: The One Who Won,” written by Scott Phillips with music by Jill Phillips at the Kent Theatre on May 17, 18, 19; and May 24, 25. Performances start at 7:30, with the exception a Sunday matinee on May 19, which has a 3 p.m. start time. You may purchase tickets at the Cedar Springs Public Library in advance for $12 for adults and $6 for children under 18. The box office is open 30 minutes before each performance and tickets may be purchased at that time for $15 for adults and $6 for children under 18. #19-21b

Lose weight sensibly with TOPS

May 21:Take off pounds sensibly (TOPS), a non-profit weight loss support group for men and women, meets every Tuesday at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Sand Lake. May 21: Michigan Blood Drive will be held Tuesday, May 21^st at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church located at 140 S Main Cedar Springs. The drive is will go from 12:30 pm until 7 pm. CS Historical Society’s Cemetery Walk

May 26: The Cedar Springs Historical Society is holding its 19^th annual Memorial Cemetery walk on Sunday, May 26^th at 2 pm to honor veterans of all wars. This year’s veterans will be Leander Jewell, Civil War; Harold Bicknell Gidden, World War I; Leland Dewey, World War II; William Wilson, Korean War; Michael E. Magoon, Vietnam War. Biographical and historical information will be presented at each gravesite. The Glen Hill Post of the American Legion honor guard will assist at the presentation. We will leave from the museum in Morley Park at 1:30 pm and return for refreshments. In case of severe weather warnings we will cancel the event. In case of rain we will do the presentation in the museum. #20,21b

Invasive Plant Meeting @ Nelson Township

May 30: Kent Conservation District and Nelson Township are holding an Invasive Plant Informational Meeting on May 30^th, at 6:30 pm at the Nelson Township Hall, located at 2 Maple Street in Sand Lake, Mi. Kent Conservation has been working to reduce the spread of invasive plant species. Kent Conservation will teach you to recognize invasive plants and how to control them. Native plants are strongly encouraged since they pose no threat of becoming invasive. Kent Conservation will have handouts on what invasive plants to watch out for and what native plants to add to your landscape. Red Flannel Pageant Meeting

June 2: Attention all young ladies attending Cedar Springs High School, Creative Technologies Academy, or live in the Cedar Springs school district, (including homeschoolers) who will be in the 11^th grade in the 2019-2020 school year. July 18: A Michigan Blood Drive will be held on July 18^th at the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church from 12:30 pm until 7 pm. Members of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club will be grilling hot dogs for all those who attempt to donate. Chips and a drink will be included. Summer is a particularly slow number for donors but a high demand for blood. Each donation has the potential to save 3 Michigan lives.
