CSY wrestlers medal at state

This past weekend the CSYW club, along with 278 other wrestling teams from across the state, converged on Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo for the MyWAY State Championships. Three days, 3300 wrestlers, 8259 matches—all to determine who the best wrestlers in the state would be. The Red Hawks sent 36 competitors and 18 came away with medals. Cedar Springs also finished in 10th place in pins with 34 and 13th place in match points with 478.

In the 2012-14 age group, Brycen Alber (46lbs) was the lone medalist with a 4th place finish. Other state qualifiers included Deacon Reynolds (43), Sierra Streeter (49lbs), and Taylor Crystal (52).

In the 2011 age group, a trio of Red Hawks medaled as Dillon VanDyke (61) took 8th, Jaxon Fitzgerald (72) took 8th, and Benjamin Streeter (82) took 7th. Other state qualifiers included Dawson Pike (55).

In the 2010 age group, state qualifiers included Eli Gunderson (52), Bryson Streeter (52), and Chasyn Winchel (72).

In the 2009 age group, Jon Libera (85) took 3rd place. Other state qualifiers included Isaac Gitchel (63), Cade Troupe (66), Alex Hanes (85), and Dayton Reynolds (85).

In the 2008 age group, Deegan Pike (69) took 8th, and Blake Falan (78) took 5th. Other state qualifiers included Caleb Austin (75).

In the 2007 age group Hudson Crystal (100) took 8th and Dakota Winchel (158) took 8th as well. Other state qualifiers included Kaiden Dreyer (95).

In the 2006 age group, Wyatt Cooper (HWT) took 4th. Other state qualifiers included David Deweese (185).

In the 2004 age group Carter Falan (138) took 5th, Logan Troupe (145) took 7th, and Maston Wood (170) took 6th.

In the 2003-2004 HS age group, Ben Brunner (128) and Antwuan Nicholls (143) were both state qualifiers. 

In the 2000-2002 HS age group, Andrew VanGessel (115) took 4th and David Erxleben (138) took 2nd.

On the girls side, in the 2012-14 age group Sierra Streeter (49) took 2nd place,  and Taylor Crystal (55) took 7th. In the 2000-2003, age group Ashley Erxleben (126) took 6th. Other state qualifiers included Kaycee Collins (122) in the 2004-2006 age group. 

The weekend was a great finish to an amazing year!

CSY wrestlers tune up before state meet

Seven Cedar Springs Youth wrestlers traveled to Wyoming High School for the final regular season tournament of the year. 

In the 2012-2014 age division, Deacon Reynolds turned in a second place finish in the 43lb weight class and Brycen Alber had another strong showing taking first after moving up a weight class to 49lbs.

In the 2010-2011 age group, Elijah Elam took second place in the combined bracket of 49/52lbs. 

Older brother John Elam came away with a secon place finish as well in the 57/66lb bracket in the 2008-2009 age group. Also in the 2008-2009 age group, Caleb Austin brought home a second place finish in the combined 69/72/75lb weight class. Wrapping things up for the Red Hawks was Kale Faurot, who finished first in the 81lb weight class.

CSYW Club Places 8th At Byron Center

Twenty-nine Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers traveled to Byron Center last Sunday to compete in another MYWAY West Region tournament. The Red Hawks competed against 29 other teams on their way to placing 8th overall with a record of 64 and 51. Along with bringing home 23 medals the Hawks were 2nd in total pins with 30 (51:33), 2nd in technical falls with 2 (4:07), and 2nd in total match points with 423. 

Coach Scott Marsman had this to say following the tournament, “We saw a number of our wrestlers having to wrestle up weight classes today and they all rose to the challenge! As a team we wrestled our hearts out!”

In the 2012-2014 age division Brycen Alber got things started in a split bracket for the Red Hawks with a 2nd place finish in the 46lb. weight class. On the other side of the 46lb. bracket Brandon Mortensen took home a 4th place finish. In another split bracket Sierra Streeter took 2nd in the 49lb weight class while Henry Galinis took 4th place on the “B” side. Hudson Cassiday had a 3rd place finish in the 52lb weight class to wrap up the 2012-2014 age group.

 Starting off the 2010-2011 Open age division Bryson Streeter had a 3rd place finish in the 55lb bracket. Tucker Crystal also took 3rd in a combined bracket off 64/67lbs while Chasyn Winchel brought home a 2nd place finish in another combined bracket of 72/77lbs. Rounding out the Open side of the age division was Benjamin Streeter who in a combined bracket of 82/97lbs took 4th place on the day.

The 2010-2011 Novice age division saw three Red Hawks medal with Eli Gunderson and Elijah Elam taking 3rd and 4th respectively in the 52lb bracket and Dillon Vandyke took 1st place in the 61lb bracket.

In the afternoon session of wrestling in the 2008-2009 Open age division Spencer Schoenborn took 1st in the combined bracket of 66/69lbs in what was his first Open tournament of the season! Blake Falan also took home a 1st place medal in the 75lb bracket while Zachary Vu had a strong finish to take 4th place in the combined bracket of 100/110lbs. On the Novice side John Elam took 3rd place in the 69lb bracket and Caleb Austin had a 4th place finish in the combined bracket of 72/75. Finishing out the 2008-2009 age group was a 3rd place finish in the 78lb weight class by Timothy Smith.

The 2006-2007 age group saw some tough wrestling as Hudson Crystal took 3rd in the Open 105 bracket and Rory Schoenborn took 1st place in the Novice 85lb bracket.

The day finished with the 2004-2005 Open age division and three Red Hawks took advantage of their opportunity! Tommy Stevens took home a 2nd place medal in the 114lb weight class while Gabe Gair and Carter Falan both had 3rd place finishes in the 130lb and combined bracket of 138/145lb respectively. 

January 6th will see the Red Hawks traveling west to the lake shore for a tournament at Grand Haven High School.

Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers traveled to Orchard View High School on Sunday December 2, along with 38 other teams for the MYWAY West Region season opener. 325 competitors competed for the top spots, 38 from Cedar Springs. The team was first in total pins with 40 in 60:43 and in total match points with 506, 4th in Techs with 2 in 5:49. They finished the day 67-56. Coach Jake Marsman said he’s very impressed with their drive so early on in the season and can’t wait to get back to the practice mats to get them in shape for next weeks tournament at Allendale.

In the 2012-2014 Open division Brycen Alber was the 1st Place Champion in the 43lb class. He scored 14 TMP, had 4 pins in 3:18 and was 2nd over all. His fastest pin was :18. Deacon Reynolds placed 3rd in the 46lb class. He scored 37 TMP (6th over all). Ethan Trompen placed 3rd in the 49lb class. He scored 22 TMP. Sierra Streeter placed 2nd in the 49lb class. She scored 37 TMP (6th over all), she had 4 pins in 5:32 (4th overall) and her fastest pin was :21 (23rd). Taylor Crystal was the 1st Place Champion in the 52lb class. She scored 34 TMP (11th). 

In the 2010-11 Novice division 52lb class, Eli Gunderson placed 2nd. He scored 23 TMP. Karsen Roelofs placed 4th and scored 17 TMP. Tristan Wilkerson placed 5th. In the 61lb class Dillon VanDyke placed 2nd and his fastest pin was :46 (89th). In the 82lb class Tanner Wood placed 2nd. In the Open Division, Dawson Pike placed 5th in the 52lb class. Brysen Streeter placed 3rd and his fastest pin was :34 (26th) in the 55lb class. Tucker Crystal was the 1st Place Champion in the 64lb class and his fastest pin was :28 (37th). Chasyn Winchel was the 1st Place Champion in the 67lb class. He scored 31 TMP (15th), had 3 pins in 2:47 (14th), his fastest was :17 (11th) and 1 Tech in 2:14 (6th). Jaxon Fitzgerald placed 5th in the 67lb class. 

In the 2008-09 Novice division Tucker Dines was the 1st Place Champion in the 57lb class, scoring 19 TMP (72nd). Caleb Austin placed 4th in the 75lb class, scoring 23 TMP (44th). Dayton Reynolds placed 4th in the 85lb class. Zach Vu was the 1st Place Champion in the 110/130lb class. His fastest pin was :44 (84th). In the Open division Cade Troupe placed 2nd in the 57/60lb class. His fastest pin was :33 (47th). Deegan Pike was the 1st Place Champion in the 72lb class. Blake Falan placed 3rd in the 78lb class. Jon Libera placed 2nd in the 81lb class. He scored 20 TMP (67th), had 2 pins in 2:42 (49th) and his fastest pin was :41 (72nd). 

In the 2006-07 Novice division Calvin Kerridge placed 5th in the 85lb class. Kaiden Dreyer placed 2nd in the 90lb class. In the Open division Gavyn Byxbe placed 3rd in the 105lb class. Hudson Crystal placed 2nd in the 105lb class. Wyatt Cooper was the 1st Place Champion in the HWT class. His fastest pin was :19 (17th).

In the 2004-05 Open division Carter Falan was the 1st Place Champion in the 138lb class. Logan Troupe was 2nd. He had 1 pin in 1:40, scoring 8 TMP. Antwuan Nicholls was the 1st Place Champion in the 145lb class. He scored 27 TMP (24th) and had 3 pins in 5:37 (19th). In the 170lb class, Maston Wood was the 1st Place Champion and scored 48 TMP (1st over all), had 2 pins in 3:51 (67th) and had 1 Tech in 3:35 (15th).

Youth wrestlers shine at state

Last weekend 309 teams and 3,335 wrestlers from every region in the state competed for the top placings at the 2018 MYWAY State Championship, March 23-25, at Wings Event Center in Kalamazoo. Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers took 26 competitors. 

“We were very pleased with all of the kids that went to Kalamazoo this weekend, said Coach Scott Marsman. “They wrestled some of their best matches of the year over the past three days. We’re all so very proud of them. They certainly finished the year on a positive note and are already looking forward to picking up right where they left off next year.” 

The team had 27 pins in 50:58 (19th over all), 347 Team Match Points (34th) and went 58-52 for the weekend (181st). 

Nolan Averill had the fastest pin for the team and tied for 9th over all with :09! He had 2 pins in :31 and scored 23 TMP. Gavyn Byxbe had 2 pins in 1:56. Tucker Crystal had 1 pin in :54. Jaxon Fitzgerald had 1 pin in 1:52. Kaiden Dreyer had 1 pin in 3:57. Dakota Winchel had 1 pin in 4:05. Logan Troupe had 1 pin in 4:18 and scored 28 TMP.

In the 2011-13 67lb bracket, Ben Streeter placed 2nd after four matches. He had 2 pins in 2:11 and scored 11 TMP.

In the 2009-10 77lb class, Jon Libera placed 5th after eight matches. He had 1 pin in :37 and he scored 31 TMP.

In the 2008 71lb class, Blake Falan placed 8th after five matches and he scored 30 TMP. 

In the 2007 90lb class, Hudson Crystal placed 3rd after eight matches. He had 5 pins in 8:34 (10th), his fastest pin was in :14 (tied for 52nd) and he scored 36 TMP.

In the 2006 183lb class, Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd after four matches. He had 1 pin in 2:03 and scored 15 TMP.

In the 2004 114lb class, Carter Falan placed 8th after five matches. He had 2 pins in 3:33 and scored 13 TMP. In the 170lb bracket, Maston Wood placed 5th after five matches. He had 3 pins in 5:57 and scored 18 TMP.

In the 2011-13 Girls 49lb class, Taylor Crystal placed 6th after 5 matches, had 1 pin in 2:33 and scored 9 TMP. 

In the 2009-10 Girls 58lb class, Caleigh Wood placed 4th after five matches. She had 3 pins in 7:57 and scored 27 TMP.

Thirty-eight Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers competed at the Myway West Regionals March 10-11 for the top four spots in each division to continue on to the State competition on March 23-25. 

The team placed 2nd in pins with 38 in 59:49; 3rd in techs with 4 in 14:23; and 1st in Team Points with 586. The kids went 85-61 for the weekend. 

According to Coach Scott Marsman, they are so proud of themselves and of their hard work and dedication. They are anxious for the State competition and are looking forward to the fun times with their teammates. 

In the 2011-13 division 43lb class, Sierra Streeter scored 27 TMP (tied for 70th), placed 4th. Brycen Alber placed 5th. In the 52lb class Nolan Averill had 2 pins in 2:30 (73rd), 38 TMP (tied for 24th) and placed 2nd. In the 55lb class Dillon VanDyke had 2 pins in 1:20 (43rd), his fastest pin was :36 (tied for 70th) and he placed 3rd. The Champion in the 64lb class was Jaxon Fitzgerald. He had 2 pins in 2:11 (62nd), his fastest pin was :11 (4th). The Champion in the 67lb class was Ben Streeter. His fastest pin was 1:58.

In the 2009-10 divisions, Tucker Dines scored 55 TMP (most on the team and tied for 3rd) and placed 6th in the 52lb class. Caleigh Wood had 2 pins in 3:32 (94th) and placed 5th in the 55lb class. Tucker Crystal had a pin in 1:17 and placed 3rd in the 58lb class. The Champion in the 67lb class was Chasyn Winchel. His fastest pin was :27 (tied for 40th). Alex Hanes placed 3rd in the 72lb class. The Champion in the 77lb class was Jon Libera.  He had 2 pins in 2:28 (tied for 72nd). Zach Vu placed 5th in the 97lb class. 

In the 2008 division Deegan Pike placed 5th in the 63lb class. Austin Averill placed 6th in the 67lb class. Spencer Schoenborn placed 4th in the 67lb class. The Champion in the 71lb class was Blake Falan. He had 3 pins in 4:31 (15th), his fastest pin was :25 (tied for 28th).

Olivia Lawson placed 3rd in the 85lb class. 

In the 2007 divisions Trenton Perez placed 3rd in the 59lb class. Brandson Wood placed 3rd in the 63lb class. Kaiden Dreyer had one Tech in 2:20(12th), scored 53 TMP (7th) and placed 3rd in the  80lb class. Rory Shoenborn had two Techs in 8:13 (7th), 48 TMP (9th) and placed 5th in the 80lb class. Gavyn Byxbe placed 3rd in the 85lb class. Hudson Crystal had 2 pins in 2:24 (68th) and he placed 2nd in the 90lb class. Dakota Winchel placed 2nd in the 130lb class. 

In the 2006 division Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd in the 183lb class.

In the 2005 division  Gabe Gair had two pins in 2:00(57th), 1 Tech in 3:50 (49th) and placed 5th in the 105lb class. 

In the 2004 divisions the Champion in the 114lb class was Carter Falan. He had two pins in 2:28. Logan Troupe had a pin in 2:11and placed 4th in the 122lb class. Ben Brunner had a pin in 1:22and placed 3rd in the 122lb class. The Champion in the 170lb class was Maston Wood. He had a pin in 4:04.

In the 2003 division Ashly Erxleben placed 6th.

In the 2002-03 HS division Andrew VanGessel had a pin in 2:29and placed 5th in the 115lb class.

In the 1999-2001 division David Erxleben placed 5th in the 133lb class.

CS Youth wrestlers place in Myway tournaments

Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers traveled to Ionia HS and to Henry Ford HS for Myway tournaments this past weekend.

According to Coach Pike, it was exciting to see how many new wrestlers are winning out on the mat. “We brought 43 wrestlers to Ionia. It’s been exciting to see the improvement in all the kids every week. From the newest wrestler to our most experienced, they are proving to themselves that working hard in practice gives them the edge they need to win out on the mat,” he said.

CSYWC finished the day 1st in number of Pins and total Match Points, 2nd in most Techs and their winning percentage was up 13 percent over last week, 102-59. 

Jon Libera headed to the Detroit/Metro Region to chase the Greights. His fastest pin for the day was 1:00 and he brought home the Silver medal in the 2009-10 77lb class.  

At Ionia HS, Conner Dines had the most pins for the team and was 5th overall with 4 in 4:17. Thomas Prins was 23rd with 3 in 3:16. Hudson Crystal was 52nd with 2 in :59. Ben Streeter was 67th with 2 in 1:33. Nolan Averill was 82nd with 2 in 2:02. Karsen Roelofs was 88th with 2 in 2:17. 

Mason Taylor had the fastest Tech for the team and was 3rd overall with 1:13. Karsen Roelofs was 13th with 2:09. Dillon VanDyke tied for 26th with 3:00. Deegan Pike was 40th with 3:47. Gavyn Byxbe was 41st with 3:50. The team was 2nd overall with 5 in 13:59.

Zach Vu celebrated his birthday and had the Fastest Pin for the team, tying for 1st overall, with :09! Dawson Pike and Thomas Prins tied for 18th with :15. Hudson Crystal tied for 23rd with :16. Taylor Crystal tied for 30th :18. Conner Dines tied for 48th with :22. Karsen Roelofs tied for 61st with :25. We were 1st place overall with 39 pins in 53:09.

Conner Dines scored the most Team Points overall tying for 1st with 25.0, Austin Averill and Spencer Schoenborn tied for 30th with 22.0, Deegan Pike was 25th with 21.5, Kaiden Dreyer tied for 47th with 21.0, Tucker Crystal and Thomas Prins tied for 59th with 20.0, Karsen Roelofs and Dillon VanDyke tied for 77th with 19.5, Nolan Averill tied for 83rd with 19.0, Hudson Crystal and Gabe Gair tied for 92nd with 18.0.

Tucker Dines tied for 14th in overall single Match Points with 18, Dillon VanDyke tied for 19th with 17. Sierra Streeter, Karsen Roelofs, Gavyn Byxbe, Deegan Pike & Mason Taylor tied for 43rd with 16. John Elam and Nolan Averill tied for 67th with 15. Taylor Crystal tied for 96th with 14. The team scored 690 match points for the day. 

In the 2011-13 age group our 4th place finishers were Mason Taylor & Dawson Pike.  Placing 3rd were Sierra Streeter and Jaxon Fitzgerald. Finishing 2nd were Taylor Crystal, Karsen Roelofs, Nolan Averill, Dillon VanDyke. Congratulations goes to Ben Streeter on his 1st place Championship!

In the 2009-10 age group Tucker Dines placed 3rd. Placing 2nd were Cameron Ellison and Chasyn Winchel. Congratulations to our 1st place Champions Zach Vu and Tucker Crystal!

In the 2007-08 divisions placing 3rd was Rory Schoenborn. Our 2nd place finishers were Deegan Pike, Kaiden Dreyer and Gavyn Byxbe. Congratulations to our 1st place Champions Austin Averill, Spencer Schoenborn, Conner Dines, Thomas Prins and Hudson Crystal!

In the 2005-06 age groups Jack Sherburn placed 3rd and Gabe Gair took the 1st place Championship in the 112/119lb class!

In the 2003-04 divisions Joey Meade and Logan Troupe brought home 4th place medals. Bringing home 3rd place was Carter Falan. Maston Wood brought home the 2nd place medal in the 170lb class.

Next week the team travels to Zeeland East for a team duals tournament; Big Rapids to chase the Greights medal; and West Ottawa for the West Region competition.

Three CSYWC grapplers joined 334 others to try to win a plate sized Monster Medal at the first Border Wars tournament of the season in Brighton, Mich. on Saturday, March 25. Coached by their dads, the boys experienced some great competition from all over the state.

In the 2008-2009 49lb class, Tucker Crystal placed 3rd after 3 matches, scoring 6 match points. In the combined 67/72lb class, Jonathon Libera placed 4th after 3 matches, scoring 6 match points.

In the 2006-2007 80lb class Hudson Crystal wrestled 3 matches, going 1-2 for the day and scoring 7 match points.

CS Youth wrestlers were some of 356 first and second year wrestlers that competed for top spots at the Novice Championships in Saline, Mich. This is the third year the club has travelled to this tournament and it is a fantastic way for the novice wrestler to end their year. The eight local wrestlers finished the day 21-10.

“I’m really proud of these kids. They are out here every week learning new moves and driving themselves just as hard as the more experienced wrestlers. They are using that knowledge from those tough losses and pushing themselves to win matches. I can’t wait to get them back on the mat next year!” said Coach Jake Marsman.

The team placed 10th out of 76 in Most Pins/Least Time with 10 pins in 14:22. Chasyn Winchel was 41st over all with 2 in :44. Dakota Winchel placed 43rd over all with 2 in :57. Deegan Pike was 64th over all with 2 in 2:55. Cade Troupe placed 93rd over all with 1 in :42. CSYWC was 17th in over all match points with 106. Wyatt Dickinson came in 2nd over all in Single Match Points with 19. Cole Haack was 44th over all with 13.

In the 2010-2012 55lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 1st after 4 matches.

In the 2008-2009 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 3rd after 7 matches.

In the 2006-2007 110lb class Dakota Winchel placed 3rd after 4 matches.

In the 2004-2005 100lb class Cole Haack placed 1st after 2 matches. In the 105lb class, Gabe Gair placed 1st after 3 matches, 54th over all in Most Pins/Least Time with 2 in 5:45.

CS Youth wrestlers at Greights competition

Twenty-three Cedar Springs Youth wrestlers competed alongside 107 other teams last weekend for the final regular season and last MYWAY Greights competition. Almost 700 grapplers competed for the final piece of this year’s Greights medal and a chance to be Champion for the last West Region regular season tournament.

CSYWC finished 10th in match points with 188. Deegan pike scored 31, Wyatt Dickinson, 20; Chasyn Winchel & Wyatt Cooper, 19; Carter Falan, 16; Tucker Crystal, 13; Bllake Falan & Cade Troupe each scored 9, David DeWeese and Bryson Streeter each scored 7, Logan Troupe, 6; Daniel Vaughn, Remington DeWeese, and William Dickinson, 5; Matthew Vaughn & Landen Totten, 4; Hudson Crystal, Gavyn Byxbe & Dakota Winchel scored 2 each. We finished the day 37-35 and 7th in pins with 17 in 25:51.

According to Coach Goike, “Its good to see the kids peaking just in time for Regionals this week! They are really pushing themselves in practice and are not showing any signs of burn out. They are ready for the strong competition at Caledonia!”

Wyatt Cooper came in 25th over all and first on the team with 3 pins in 4:11. David DeWeese was 51st over all and 2nd on the team with 2 in :40. He also had the 4th fastest pin of the day in  :13! Awesome job, David! Wyatt Dickinson tied for 12th in most single match points with 18. Deegan Pike had the most match points for the day and tied for 40th over all with 31. David DeWeese had the top fastest pins for the team with :13 and :27, William Dickinson was 3rd with :34, Landen Totten was 4th with :40 and Wyatt Cooper was 5th with :41.

In the 2008-2012 Girls division, 40lb class Sierra Streeter placed 2nd after 2 matches.

In the 2002-2004 Girls division, 122lb class Ashly Erxleben placed 1st after 2 matches.

In the 2010-2012 All division, 52lb class Tucker Crystal placed 4th after 4 matches. In the 58lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 2nd after 4 matches.

In the 2006-2007 Open division, 100lb class Matthew Vaughn placed 2nd after 2 matches. In the 150lb class Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd after 4 matches. In the Novice division, 130lb class David DeWeese placed 1st after 2 matches.

In the 2004-2005 Open division, 105lb class Carter Falan placed 1st after 3 matches.

Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers traveled to both Tri County and Traverse City last weekend.

According to Coach Scott Marsman, “It’s nice to see the amount of kids at these tournaments. Twenty-eight went to Tri County and the competition was excellent. Our kids are improving every week. We have Bryson Streeter who had his first pin, Chasyn Winchel placed 12th over all with most pins in the shortest time, and Jayden Mull had an :18 pin. We came in 1st place in match points with 217. The kids are running their moves. They are looking very good and we are excited to see how they finish out the season.”

In the 2010-2012 Open division 43lb class Dawson Pike placed 3rd after 5 matches. In the 49lb class Bryson Streeter placed 3rd after 5 matches. In the 55lb class Jaxon Fitzgerald placed 4th after 4 matches. In the 58lb class Chasyn Winchel placed 1st after 3 matches and had the fastest pin for the team with :16! Also in the 58lb class, Ben Streeter placed 4th after 4 matches. In the HWT class Luke Ball placed 2nd after 2 matches.

In the 2008-2009 Open division 58lb class Deegan Pike placed 4th after 5 matches. In the 61lb class Blake Falan placed 2nd after 5 matches with 2 pins in 1:17.

In the 2006-2007 Open division 75lb class Gavyn Byxbe placed 4th after 4 matches. In the 90lb class Thomas Prins placed 4th after 3 matches. In the 100lb class Elijah Artecki placed 4th after 4 matches and had a :21 pin! In the 110lb class Dakota Winchel placed 1st after 3 matches. In the combined 130/150 class Wyatt Cooper placed 2nd after 4 matches with 2 pins in 1:08 and David DeWeese placed 4th after 4 matches.

In the 2004-2005 Open division, 80lb class Ricco Artecki placed 4th after 3 matches. In the 100lb class Ben Brunner placed 4th after 5 matches with 2 pins in 2:00. In the 158lb class Nolan Myers placed 4th in his first ever tournament after 4 matches.

In the 2002-2003 Open division, 85lb class Trevor Marsman placed 2nd after 3 matches. In the 95lb class Andrew VanGessel placed 2nd after 2 matches.

MYWAY Greights Far North

In the 2010-2012 All division, Tucker Crystal had a pin in :45, 12 match points, and took 3rd place after 5 matches. Jonathan Libera had a pin in :31 & scored 6 match points. In the 2006-2007 division, Hudson Crystal had 2 pins in 1:35, scored 19 match points and took 3rd place after 4 matches.

Youth wrestlers compete at state

Jonathan Libera, Blake Falan, Gavyn Byxbe, Hudson Crystal, Keaton Klaasen, Trevor Marsman and Andrew Van Gessel and their families travelled to Kellogg Arena in Battle Creek for the MYWA State Tournament over the weekend. They had 30 matches, finishing the weekend 16-14. Jonathan Libera placed 7th in the 11-09 61lb division.

We are proud of how our kids did this weekend and all year,” said coach Scott Marsman.It is a long season and they wrestled hard and never gave up. Thank you to all of the athletes and their parents for a wonderful season and we look forward to working with you next year.”

Last weekend, 19 Cedar Springs Youth Wrestlers competed in the MYWAY West Regional Tournament. There were two days of intense competition that resulted in 49 wins, with 15 wrestlers placing in the top 6 spots. Seven of those wrestlers will head to Battle Creek in two weeks for the state tournament. 

Hudson Crystal had the fastest pin for the team with :10, Brandson Wood with :22, and Blake Falan with :30. According to Coach Goike, “Having 15 out of 18 wrestlers place place made for a very impressive finish for the year. The dedication that they have all shown in practice has given them the edge they need to be successful for the State Tournament and beyond.” 

Placing 2nd in the 11-09 ALL 61lb division was Jonathan Libera; in the 08-07 ALL 72lb division was Hudson Crystal; and in the 02-01 ALL 85lb division was Andrew VanGessel.

Placing 3rd in the 06-05 ALL 59lb division was Keaton Klaasen; in the 08-07 ALL 67lb division was Gavyn Byxbe; and in the 04-03 ALL 75lb division wasTrevor Marsman.

Placing 4th in the 08-07 ALL 58lb division was Blake Falan.

Placing 5th in the 11-09 ALL 46lb division was Tucker Crystal, and in the 04-03 ALL 90lb division, Carter Falan.

Placing 6th in the 11-09 ALL 46lb division was Caleigh Wood; in the 11-09 ALL 49lb division was Chasyn Winchel; in the 08-07 ALL 52lb division was Brandson Wood; in the 08-07 ALL 97lb division was Dakota Winchel; in the 06-05 ALL 80lb division was Blake Pickard; and in the 06-05 ALL 130lb division was David DeWeese.
