By James Streeter

After a two year pause from MyWAY competition, the Cedar Springs Youth Wrestling program was back at it at Lakewood High School in Lake Odessa. The Red Hawks traveled twenty grapplers who were eager to get back on the mat and they did not disappoint! As a team the Red Hawks went 34-33 overall and finished in 8th place out of 30 teams in total pins with 19 (35:08).

Twelve Red Hawks brought home hardware, with Henry Galinis getting things started in a big way in the 2014-13 Open 82lb. bracket with a 1st place finish. Kam Kohler finished in a strong 2nd place in the 2014-13 77lb. bracket. Kam was also 17th at the tournament in pins with 3 total (1:38).

In the 2012-11 age group, a number of Red Hawks found success. Sierra Streeter took 4th in the open 69 bracket while Dillon VanDyke had a strong 2nd place finish in the open 90 bracket. Ben Streeter had a strong showing in the 110lb bracket with a 2nd place finish while Jaxon Fitzgerald managed a 4th place finish in the 110lb weight class.

The 2010-09 age group showed that they were up to the task with four medals of their own. Elijah Elam and Eli Gunderson shook the rust off with a pair of 2nd place finishes in the 65lb and 70lb brackets respectively. Bryson Streeter wrestled his way to 4th place in the 80lb. bracket while Jon Libera placed 3rd in the 119.

Wrapping up the day was the 2008-07 age group, which collected a pair of medals with Deegan Pike claiming 2nd in the open 90/95lb bracket and Gavyn Byxbe placing 3rd in the 155lb bracket.

Next week CSYW travels to Fremont for more MyWAY West Region action.
