The Cedar Spring Girls Basketball Team took to the court this past week with a trio of contests and came away with a 2-1 record. The Red Hawks are competing in the OK Gold Conference this season after spending the past few years in the OK White.

On Wednesday, February 10, the ladies hit the road to take on Kenowa Hills in their first game of the season. The team used a pesky defense and senior Kaelyn Colclasure knocked down 5 three-pointers on her way to a career high 21 points and 5 rebounds to lead the team to a 48-31 victory.

Classmate Jenna Powell chipped in 11 points and 5 rebounds, followed by Junior Darrah Miller with 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists.

The Red Hawks were back at it a night later when they traveled to Grand Rapids once again to take on Ottawa Hills.  After a slow start, the ladies used a strong second half performance to come away with a 44-28 victory.

Senior Avery Sparling had a great game leading the team with 15 points and 8 rebounds. Darrah Miller scored 9 points, hauled in 7 rebounds, and had 7 steals on the night. Kaelyn Colclasure had a similar performance scoring 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals.

The last of the trio of games brought the Red Hawks home for the first time this season to take on Wayland.  Cedar Springs fell behind early but kept the game close throughout. The team made many runs at getting back within striking distance but were unable to make up ground as they fell for the first time, 44-59 to the Wildcats.

Jenna Powell scored a career high 17 points and pulled down a career high 12 (10 offensive) rebounds to lead the team. Colclasure (10 points, 6 rebounds),  Sparling (8 points, 4 rebounds), and Miller (6 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists) also had strong performances on the evening.

The Lady Red Hawks were scheduled to return to action Tuesday, February 16 when FH Eastern comes to C-Town. Read about that game in next week’s paper.
