Youth grapplers have solid showing at Orchard View

By James Streeter

The Cedar Springs Youth Wrestling (CSYW) club traveled to Muskegon Orchard view this past Sunday to compete against 46 other clubs in yet another MyWAY West tournament.  Cedar traveled 15 wrestlers to Muskegon and had 11 come away with medals. The Red Hawks finished 6th in pins with 21 (34:35) and 12th in match points with 167. Coach Fitzgerald was happy with the outcome stating, “Though the brackets were on the small side, the combining of some of the weight classes made for some challenges for our wrestlers.”

In the 2013-2015 age group Henry Galinas started things out with a 4th place finish in the 55lb weight class, while Ethan Trompen managed a strong 2nd place finish in the 58lb bracket.

Continuing into the 2011-2012 age group, Brycen Alber took home 1st place in the combined open bracket of 43/46/49lbs. Also on the open side, Jaxon Fitzgerald and Ben Streeter both had good outings, as they both brought home 2nd place finishes in the 77/82lb and the 97lb brackets respectively. Rounding out the age group were two 2nd place finishes on the novice side and Deacon Reynolds placed in the 49lb bracket and Tristan Wilkerson placed in the 61lb bracket.

The 2009-2010 age group saw three more Red Hawks Medal. Timothy Smith placed 3rd in the combined weight class of 78/81lbs. Jon Libera placed 3rd in the open 90/95lb bracket while Dayton Reynolds placed 2nd in the novice 95lb bracket.

Finishing things up for the Red Hawks was a 1st place finish for Kale Faurot in the novice 85lb weight class.

The CSY Wrestlers will next travel to Montague on December 29.
