“EARN IT!” is the theme for the 2018-19 Cedar Springs High School Competitive Cheer team. After falling short of competing at the 2018 Cheer State Finals by only a few points, the Lady Red Hawks are looking for redemption and are determined to earn a spot on the mat at the 2019 State Finals on March 2nd at the Delta Plex.

Coach Anne Olszewski is excited about the young talent of the team and is very proud of their hard work and dedication. “I have 10 girls in all three rounds and they are all awesome stunters. I see conference potential everywhere!” she said.

In addition to the hard work of the current squad, CSHS Cheer alumni frequently attend practices and offer encouragement and support to the team. “It’s all about family and it’s awesome to see those girls, who are cheering in college, coming back to make sure the girls know that they are pulling for them.”

On December 8, the Cedar Springs High School Competitive Cheer team traveled to Kenowa Hills High School to compete against 30 teams in the Competitive Cheer Coaches Association of Michigan (CCCAM) Scholarship Invitational. After three rounds of competition, the Cedar Springs JV team earned 2nd place with a combined score of 603.74 and the Cedar Springs Varsity team finished 2nd in Division 2, with a combined score of 732.86 (the highest score that a Cedar Springs team has earned since Coach Olszewski began coaching five years ago). In addition to walking away with 2nd place, two Red Hawk athletes earned a prestigious “Golden Ticket” from the coaching staff at Albion College!

Come and support the Lady Hawks this season. The team will travel to West Ottawa on December 15 and Jenison on December 19 to round out 2018. Congratulations on a great start and good luck on the rest of the season!
