Red Hawk volleyball wins home opener

 

The Cedar Springs Varsity volleyball team (7-10-1) began conference play last week with a tough away loss (0-3) to #9 ranked Lowell before hosting their home conference opener against Ottawa Hills on Thursday. The Lady Red Hawks swept the Bengals 3-0 (25-23;25-14;25-7), dominating offensively with 30 team kills and 14 team aces. Junior Grace Pavelka led with 9 kills and 1 block, while Kyla Andres (OH) tallied 5 kills, 9 service points,3 aces and 7 digs. Setter Maddie Outwin contributed 21 assists, 5 kills, 3 aces and 12 service points. Grace Wilcox added 6 kills and Haillie Jones held the defense with 8 digs and 16 serve receives. 

“Lowell was a tough loss for us, but we utilized mental toughness with Ottawa Hills and got the win. We continue to grow as a team each match, and look forward to progressing and capitalizing on that growth and discipline at this weeks league and tournament competitions,” stated Head Coach Ashley Lowing.

The Red Hawk JV and freshman teams also were victorious with each defeating the Bengals 2-0. Red Hawk Volleyball continued conference play Tuesday at Forest Hills Central, and again Thursday when they host Northview. The Varsity team competes Saturday at the Zeelend East Invite.
