The Varsity Lady Red Hawk Volleyball took a loss to conference foe Northview on Thursday evening, October 27, at an away match that ended 12-25, 20-25 and 8-25 to a strong offensive Wildcat team. Leading for Cedar Springs for the night were Sydney Plummer with 6 kills and 2 blocks followed by Brooke Morris who tallied 5 kills and 2 blocks. Setters Ali Sparling and Sienna Wight put up strong numbers with Sparling adding 9 assists, 6 digs 2 blocks and 4 service points while Wight recorded 7 assists and 9 serve receives. Defensive specialist Lindsey Lehman was solid against the Wildcat attack putting up 7 digs and Libero Kaitlyn Coons had 12.
The ladies traveled to Central Montcalm on Saturday, Oct 29, to compete in the Hornet Halloween Howl invite, where they finished pool play in 5th place out of 12 teams and the top seed for the Silver Bracket. In pool play, the Red Hawks split with Chippewa Hills (26-16 and 23-25), lost to Corunna 17-25 and 15-25 and took a solid victory over Morley Stanwood 25-12 and 25-16.
Despite posting a strong offensive performance for the second straight match, Cedar Springs was on the wrong end of a 2-1 score against Pellston, falling in the Silver Semi finals 23-25, 25-21 and 5-15. Junior Sydney Plummer tallied team-high 28 kills while also recording 9 blocks, 28 digs and 54 serve receives.
Baylie VanDyke contributed 17 kills and a team high 11 blocks, while Brooke Morris had 16 kills, 5 blocks, 2 aces and 23 service points. Lauren Kostus had a solid day contributing 16 kills, 7 aces and 16 service points. Libero Kaitlyn Coons put up 40 digs and 55 serve receives. Leading on assists was Sienna Wight with 36 followed by Ali Sparling with 27. Sparling also had 7 blocks, 5 aces and led the team in service points with 40 on the day.
