The Chargers Cross Country team could not have asked for a more perfect morning to race at the Portage Invitational on Oct. 8, which was the biggest meet in the state. The Chargers took advantage of the ideal weather and solid footing on the course. The team’s season-long effort and hard work are producing commendable results!
The varsity boys team focused on closing gaps and racing against the clock to meet their goal times. As a team, the Portage Invitational was their best race of the season. Junior Les Miner pulled forward and set a new season personal record (PR) while placing 5th overall. This accomplishment did not go unnoticed as a coach from another team approached Coach Davies and commented, “Les is back!” Collin Bishop is quickly moving forward and sets a new lifetime PR at each race. Ethan Lehman is proving his strength and the definition o f # noexcuses as he set a new season PR, all the while battling an injury and a cold. James Hofstra broke into the 19s at this meet and set a new season PR as well. Kenny Roesner and Dawson Ingersoll have shown excellent teamwork these past few races, keeping their focus and gauging off of each other. Dawson Armstrong did not let illness slow him down either and had a great race.
The varsity girls ran great races as they surged past those ahead of them. Hannah Hofstra took the lead looking strong and confident as she set a new season PR! Tatyanna Lawson followed not far behind with a great pace. Brin Calkins and Zoe Lehman showed excellent teamwork as Zoe kept her eyes on Brin and worked to hold a consistent pace.
The last race of the day was Max Aghamiri’s race in the Men’s Reserve meet. Max was not sure at first how he would do or what exactly his goal was, but he put forth his best effort and managed to set a lifetime PR!
It was a wonderful day for the team and we look forward to more work, goal setting, and our next two meets next week – Conference Championship and Montabella Mustang Meet. Let’s Go Chargers!
