Fall Book Sale

Nov. 5-7: Friends of the Nelson Township/Sand Lake Library presents the Fall Book Sale on Thursday, November 5 and Friday, November 6th from 10 am to 7 pm and Saturday, November 7th from 10 am to 2 pm. The book sale is at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 180 Northland Dr., Sand Lake. #44

Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play

Nov. 5-7: Spies, murder, love and other trademarks of Alfred Hitchcock come to life in the style of a 1940s radio broadcast of the master of suspense’s earlier films. With The Lodger, Sabotage and The 39 Steps, “Vintage Hitchcock: A Live Radio Play” is a triple feature, complete with vintage commercials, that recreate a daring train chase, a serial killer’s ominous presence, and a devastating explosion through the magic of live sound effects and musical underscoring. Presented by the Rogue River Community Theater Company on November 5, 6 and 7 at 7:30 pm with a special 2 pm Saturday matinee at the Kent Theatre, 8 N. Main St., Cedar Springs. Fall Festival at Cedar Springs UMC

Nov. 7: A Fall Festival Sale will be hosted by the Cedar Springs United Methodist Church on the corner of Church and Main Streets in Cedar Springs on Saturday, November 7 from 9 am to 2 pm. Booths are: Gifts from Grandma’s Attic, Mix Match Cookie Patch & Bakery, Jewelry Booth, Toy Booth, Crafts, and a new and used Book Booth. All proceeds go to missions. Sponsored by the Cedar Springs United Methodist Women. #43,44p

Benefit Dinner for John De Kraker

Nov. 7: A benefit dinner and auction for John De Kraker will be held on Saturday, November 7th from 4 to 7 pm at Solon Center Wesleyan Church at 15671 Algoma Ave. NE, Cedar Springs. John is attempting to receive a liver transplant and has been incurring heavy medical bills in the process. Let’s see if we can help John and his family with the costs! The evening includes baked goods for sale, silent auction, donation jar and spaghetti dinner. The cost is $7 in advance or $9 at the door, 12 and under are $2 in advance and at the door. Variety Sale – Sand Lake Lions Club

Silent & Live Auction

Nov. 7: A Silent & Live Auction for Pine Ridge Bible Camp will be held on Saturday, November 7th. Come experience the Wonder of Christmas at Cedar Springs High School. Registration starts at 5:30 pm, Auction begins at 6:30 pm. We will have gourmet appetizers and desserts. This is an adult only event, no child care will be provided. We currently have donations from Disney Theme Parks, 3 Trek Bikes, The Shack, Crystal Mountain Condo with Golf Package, Guided Pheasant Hunt, Event Tickets, Homemade items, Gift Baskets and much more. #44p

Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser

Nov. 9: We would like to officially invite you to our Youth Group Fundraiser as they host a Spaghetti Dinner on November 9th from 6 to 8 pm. Suggested donation is $10 a person and $25 per family. All proceeds go towards the youth and their mission trip in February to go to Colima, Mexico to help an orphanage there. The address is 1480 Indian Lakes Rd., NE Sparta, MI 49345. Free Movie at the Kent Theatre

Nov. 10-12: The box office hit movie titled “Woodlawn,” recently released and based on a true story about a small town football team, will be shown at Kent Theatre in Cedar Springs on Tuesday, November 10; Wednesday, November 11, and Thursday, November 12 with all showings to begin at 7 pm. The first 500 total people will be admitted free, compliments of En Gedi, Cedar Springs Ministerial Association, and Bliss-Witters and Pike Funeral Home. Part of En Gedi’s mission is to “build up families in our community” along with providing a free after school youth center for students in grades 6-8th. Once the 500 free admittance has occurred, the usual $3/per person fee will be instated. Simply show up at the theatre for the free tickets. “This is a great family movie that addresses both race and faith. You won’t want to miss!!”, says En Gedi Youth Center Director, Craig Owens. #44

Veteran’s Day Ceremony at Metron

Nov. 11: As we honor those who served this country, Metron of Cedar Springs, located at 400 Jeffrey, invites the community to join us for our annual flag ceremony presented by members of the American Legion Post 287. Opening prayer will be presented by Pastor Steven Lindeman, and music provided by the Cedar Springs High School Band, on Veteran’s Day, November 11 at 2 pm. Everyone is welcome to stay immediately following the ceremony for refreshments and musical entertainment. #44

Holiday Pie Making

Nov. 12: Join Chef Dave for another exciting make, take and bake class where we’ll be making holiday pies and other baked goods that you can take home and freeze for the holidays (or bake and eat before the family comes home). Thursday, November 12 from 6 to 8 pm at Howard Christiansen Nature Center, 16160 Red Pine Drive, Kent City. $15 per person includes 3 pies of your choice to make and take. #44

Deer Widow’s Weekend Bazaar

Nov. 14: The American Legion Auxiliary is having their annual Deer Widow’s Weekend Bazaar on Saturday, November 14th from 9 am to 3 pm at the Cedar Springs American Legion, 80 S. Main Street in Cedar Springs. Along with garage sale items and arts and crafts items, we will also have a bake sale. #44

Annual Fall Craft/Vendor Expo

Nov. 14: The 2nd Annual Fall Craft/Vendor Expo sponsored by Blue Star Mothers/ MI 188 will be held on Saturday, November 14th from 10 am to 2:30 pm at the Ray I. Booth American Legion Hall, 1320 W. Washington (M57), Greenville, MI. Many Crafters with knit/ crocheted items, glasswear, jewelry, yard deco, etc. Vendors selling your favorite products, and some you’ve never heard of. Silent Auction! Must be present to win. Admission is free, but please bring a bag of candy that we will use send to our deployed troops. #44,45p

Solon Center Wesleyan Church Holiday Bazaar

Nov. 14: Do your Christmas shopping! Saturday, November 14th from 9 am to 3 pm. 50 vendors, delicious baked goods, 100’s of hand crafted items, jewelry, refurbished furniture and many other vendors. There’s definitely something for everyone! Rolls & coffee and a lunch counter are also available. The church is located at 15671 Algoma Avenue, just north of 19 Mile Rd. Deer Hunter’s Widow War Chest Event

Nov. 14: If you knew you could do something as easy as buying a handmade piece of jewelry or other item to help women and children rescued from the sex trade, would you? You will have that chance on Saturday, November 14th, at the Springs Church from 5-8 p.m., at the Deer Hunter’s Widow War Chest event. The event is put on by Women at Risk International, a humanitarian organization based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They have safe houses all over the world where they’ve rescued women and children out of sex trafficking and empower them to earn an income by making products to sell. Judy Wolter will speak about the program, and refreshments will be provided. Admission is free. All proceeds go to women at risk. For more info call Wendy at 616-460-1989. #44,45p

Kent County Teen Festival: Filmmaking 101

Nov. 14: Working in groups, students (grades 6-12) will discover the basics of camera work, lighting, sound and editing. Students will spend the day working under the guidance of two instructors, progressing through the entire process of creating a video from start to screening. Of course, there will be a pizza break as well! Pre-registration is required. Boomer Social Club: Avoid the Scam

Nov. 16: Some deals seem too good to be real, and many of them are! Get tips from the Kent County Sheriff’s department on how to avoid getting scammed through the mail or online. While senior citizens are especially encouraged to attend, this program is recommended for all adults. Monday, November 16th at 6:30 pm at the Nelson Township/Sand Lake KDL Branch, 88 Eighth St. #44
