God’s Kitchen in Cedar Springs

July 8: Join us for dinner every Tuesday. God’s Kitchen – Cedar Springs welcomes families from Northern Kent County and the surrounding area to a Tuesday Evening Meal. No charge – no registration required!  Served from 5:30 – 6:30 pm at the St. John Paul II Parish, 3110 – 17 Mile Rd., Cedar Springs. Fall 2014 Soccer Registration

July 8, 10:Tuesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 10, 2014, 6 -8pm:– American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) – Beginning this year, all registrations must be completed online. New and returning players need to complete the application online at www.eayso.org. Individual player fees are $65 for fall only, or $110 if you are paying now for fall and spring seasons. Families registering 3 or more players will receive a $5 discount per player, per season. Players must be 4 years of age by 8/26/2014. First time players must show a Birth Certificate for age verification. Credit card payments are now accepted online. Our staff will be available at Burger King on 17 Mile Rd. in Cedar Springs Tuesday, July 8 and Thursday, July 10 from 6 to 8 pm. to accept cash or check payments, verify age of new players. Computers will be available for families to access the online registration if needed. Red Flannel Rod and Gun Club 

July 12,13: The Red Flannel Rod and Gun Club is hosting a 3 Gun Shoot on July 12 and 13 from 9 am to 3 pm. Participants shoot 10 rounds of trap, two rounds at each station, using a shotgun; five rounds each at 50 and 100 yard targets, using a rifle; then 10 rounds at 50 yards on the pistol range. Open to the public. The club is located at 7463 18 Mile Rd. NE, Cedar Springs. #28


Archeology in Israel

July 14: The Cedar Springs Public Library presents: Archeology in Israel. Dr. DeWayne Coxon, Curator of Biblical Tamar Park and Cedar Springs resident, raised funds and volunteers to assist Israel in digging up this 3,000 year old city over the past two decades. Slides, actual artifacts and personal stories. Monday July 14th from 7 to 8:30 pm at the Cedar Springs Middle School. Pre-register at 616-696-1910 or ced@llcoop.org. #28


Baffling Bill the Magician

July 15: POOF! In a brilliant flash, Baffling Bill the magician arrives to amaze with illusion, comedy, audience participation, and Gus the Bunny to celebrate summer reading. For all ages. Baffling Bill the  Magician will be at Spencer Township KDL Branch on Tuesday, July 15, 4:00 pm. 14960 Meddler Ave., Gowen. #28


Zumba-a-thon Fund Raiser

July 16: We hare having a Zumba-a-thon to help raise funds for the High School Cheer program to attend camp and pay for gymnastics instruction for their season. Everyone in the community is invited! Wednesday, July 16th at 7 pm at the Red Hawk Elementary Gym. Tickets are $10. They are on sale now (see a High School Cheerleader) and we will take walk in’s at the door. 100% of the profits go to the girls and the program. #27,28p


Hula Hoops! 

July 16: Join Audria Larsen from Audacious Hoops as she hula hoop dances. You man even get to try it out! This Cedar Springs Public Library program will be held at 2 pm at the Cedar Springs Middle School on Wednesday, July 16. #28


Bust That Myth!

July 17: Can soda pop really clean a gross penny? Can you separate two intertwined phone books? Can you make your own bouncy ball? Test out these myths and more to determine whether they are confirmed or busted! For teens grades 6 – 12. Elementary Volleyball Camps

July 17,18: Elementary Volleyball Camps are being held July 17 and 18 at the Cedar Springs Middle School. 1St – 3rd Graders, 4:30 – 6 pm & 9 – 10:30 am. Cost is $30. 4th – 6th Graders 4:30 – 7:30 pm & 9 am – noon. Cost is $50. Register with Cedar Springs Area Parks and Recreation at www.csaparksandrec.com. #28p


Open Air Breakfast with Aebleskivers

July 18: Considered the official kick-off of the annual Danish Festival, the Open Air Breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 am, July 18, at the corner of Cass and Lafayette streets in Greenville. The Open Air Breakfast invites the public to an outdoor treat of eggs, casserole, sausage, fruit, drinks and of course aebleskivers, which are pancake-like balls of dough cooked in a special aebleskiver pan, a Danish breakfast tradition. Cost is $5 per adult and $3 for children ages 11 and younger. Aebleskivers can be purchased to go during the Open Air Breakfast. #28


The Art and Science of Canning
