Oakfield Pioneer Day

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Oakfield Pioneer Heritage Society. To celebrate the milestone, the Oakfield Township Historical Commission is planning a “Pioneer Day” Saturday, June 28th to be held at the Oakfield Township Hall, 10300 14 Mile Rd, NE. The public is invited.

The event will feature a pancake breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m., served up by Chris Cakes of Michigan, noted for their flying pancakes flipped right to your plate!  Cost is $5 per person for all you can eat pancakes, sausage, orange drink or coffee.

The pancake breakfast will be held in the recently renovated space formerly used by the township’s fire department for their vehicles. This brightly decorated space can now be used for elections, instruction and other meetings and activities.

The Oakfield Township Fire Department will also host an open house at the Pioneer Day event to show off its new addition, which houses its vehicles and equipment. The fire department’s various trucks will be on display and their “Safety House” will be open to give children instruction and materials in fire prevention and safety procedures in case of fire.

Several exhibits of historical nature will also be on display during the event to create interest in the past and encourage folks to visit the Oakfield Pioneer Heritage Museum in the future.

Enter off M-57 (just east of Harvard Avenue), park in the large lot at the back of the property and enjoy a great breakfast, learn about the fire department and fire safety, and see history first hand. The event is handicap accessible as well. Bring the whole family to enjoy this special event!
