Former Lady Red Hawks help Davenport win national title

S-Cheer-titleThree former Cedar Springs High School cheerleaders were part of the Davenport University cheer team that won the National NAIA All Girl cheer championship last month.

Brittnani Tozer, Amber Dunham and Heather Howard traveled with the team to Daytona Beach, Florida, where the team competed and won their second NCA College National Championship.

Last season the Lady Panthers won the All-Girl Division III championship, and this year moved to the NAIA All-Girl Division. Davenport finished prelims in first place, which allowed them to perform last and the team could see how the rest of the field performed before they hit the mat. Head coach Rachel Nemmers and assistant coaches, Katrina Wireman and Celia Woodfill, led the team into their final routine on Friday.

After performing a near perfect routine, which only had .5 points in deductions, the Davenport cheer team posted a final score of 91.90, beating out four other teams to secure the championship.

The Lady Panthers are the only All-Girl squad to win two back-to-back National Championships from the state of Michigan.
