Dux dominate Red Hawks

On Friday, September 20, the Cedar Springs Red Hawks Varsity football team took on the Dux of Zeeland West at Red Hawk Stadium. Unfortunately, the Red Hawks received their second loss of the season and the final score of the game was 56-6 in favor of the Dux. The Red Hawks’ record is now 2-2.

In the first quarter, Zeeland West’s offense was on fire with Danny Bauder running for a 1-yard touchdown and a 39-yard touchdown. After the first quarter, Zeeland West was up 14-0.

In the second quarter, Zeeland West’s Grant Postma recovered a fumble by the Red Hawks and ran for a 47-yard touchdown. Zeeland West’s quarterback, Casey Brinks, then passed to Danny Bauder for a 71-yard touchdown. After the Dux received the ball back again, Casey Brinks passed to Danny Bauder for another 47-yard touchdown. At halftime, the score was 34-0. in favor of the Dux.

After halftime, Zeeland West came out strong again, with Casey Brinks passing to Jordan Vanhort for a 2-yard touchdown. At the end of the third quarter, the score was 42-0 Zeeland West.

After the third quarter, the Hawks started to pick up speed and senior quarterback Austin Hilyer passed to senior Jeff Newland for an 8-yard touchdown. The Dux fought back, with Evan Macdonald running for a 71-yard touchdown. At the end of the fourth quarter, Zeeland West took home the win by defeating the Red Hawks 56-6.

“I think we played well,” stated Red Hawk Coach Kapolka. “We just need to work on not turning the ball over.”

On Friday, September 27, the Red Hawks travel to Forest Hills Eastern High school to play their first conference game of the season. Kickoff is at 7 pm. So come out and support your Red Hawks as they look for their third win of the season. Good luck Hawks!
