Doris Elda Grannis

Doris Elda Grannis, 92 of Cedar Springs, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 13, 2012. Mrs. Grannis was born July 17, 1920 in Tustin, Michigan the daughter of John and Ella (Stanke) Ruppert. She was a sweet and loving person who gave much of her life to serving others. She was a member of the Cedar Springs Women’s Club, Solon Township Election Board, worked the blood drives, and had been a Cub Scout den mother and Camp Fire girls leader. She loved to square dance, camp and garden. Surviving are her children, Sue (Phil) Harrison, Sally (Lou) Grayvold, Dan (Sally) Grannis, Jon (Venita) Grannis, Mary (Brad) Smith, Dena (Jeff) Wright; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Bernard (Laurie) Ruppert; sisters, Maxine Guilfoyle, Geraldine (Bud) Knapp; exchange student, Ginette Bosz; sister-in-law, Jeanne Ruppert; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Grannis on November 20, 1988; granddaughter, Erin Grannis on August 20, 1975; brother, John Ruppert, Jr.; sisters, Evelyn Petersen and Marian Behrens. The family received friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home Cedar Springs, where services were held on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Pastor Mary Ivanov officiating. Interment East Nelson Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cedar Springs Museum, Cedar Springs Women’s Club or Santa Claus Girls.
