Youth recreational ice hockey program

The Rockford Hockey Association, Rams Hockey, announced the formation of a new youth recreational league ice hockey program that will operate at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex, in Cedar Springs, Michigan.

An informative open house will be held on Sunday, October 14 at 3:00 p.m. at the Cedar Rock Sports Plex, 4758 Cornfield Drive, Cedar Springs, for all to learn more about this distinctive youth hockey program.

This program is the first in our area that will offer a USA Hockey and MAHA sanctioned in‐house hockey league, formally called a House C program. This is not a traditional hockey program, but a program that will offer a unique “in‐house” recreational league. This recreational league will boast significantly lower costs than traditional house ice hockey programs.

USA Hockey, the national governing body of youth hockey in the U.S., has determined the two main barriers to entry into the game of hockey are cost and time commitment. This recreational hockey program will negate those reasons and will allow for more participation in the sport, growth of the game, and physical activity benefits for area children.

This league is for ages 14 and under, at current press time, and will consist of a twice per week participation schedule run in house. This program is geared to provide the following:

  • Affordable youth hockey opportunities in northern Kent County and surrounding areas.
  • Teach kids the fundamentals of ice hockey in a recreational environment, where learning about the game of hockey is fun, safe, fosters a spirit of teamwork, sportsmanship and fair play.
  • Offer hockey a lower cost, non traditional house hockey program for children who have the desire to play hockey

Recognize the competitive needs of youth athletes can vary.

In addition to the new recreational program, Rams Hockey currently operates Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey programs, traditional ADM/Mites through Midget BB House B hockey teams, and travel hockey teams offering options for a wide range of competitive levels for area youth.
