A 57-year-old Howard City man who told police he thought he hit a deer last April has been charged in the hit and run death of a Sand Lake man.

Tyler Helton, 20, of Sand Lake, was walking along Stanton Road in Pierson Township, when a truck struck him about 9:12 p.m., April 21. The truck left the scene, but Ronald James Williams, 57, of Howard City, turned himself in the next morning when he saw the news reports.

Williams was arraigned last week on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident causing serious injury or death. He was released from jail on a $15,000 personal recognizance bond.
