Police search for double homicide suspect

Thomas Jack Fritz is wanted for the murder of his ex-girlfriend and her pregnant sister.

Police are searching for a man that is suspected of murdering two women and attempting to kill another last Friday, July 13, in Blissfield, Michigan, at approximately 11:40 p.m.

According to the Michigan State Police, they are searching for Thomas Jack Fritz, 38, of Sylvania, Ohio. He is described as a white male, 5-feet 9-inches, 186 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He may be driving a burgundy or maroon 2002 Honda, four-door with Ohio registration of EQP8075.

A three-count felony warrant has been authorized by the Lenawee County Prosecutor’s Office for his arrest, including two counts of open murder and one count of assault with intent to commit murder. Additional charges are possible.

Police identified Fritz’s victims as Amy Lynn Merrill, 33, a former girlfriend of Fritz, and Lisa Michelle Gritzmaker, 24, pregnant sister of Merrill. Robin Lynn McCowan, 52, the mother of the two murder victims, received non-fatal injuries and remains hospitalized.

The investigation is being conducted by the Michigan State Police (MSP) Monroe Post, Blissfield Police Department and Lenawee County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the MSP First District Fugitive Team and U.S. Marshals Service.

Fritz is considered armed and dangerous. Citizens should contact police immediately and not approach him. Anyone with information can call MSP Operations at (517) 241-8000.
