One in a million

Local woman wins $1,000 from Independent Bank

When an Algoma Township woman got a phone call from Julie Wheeler, Branch Manager at the Cedar Springs Independent Bank, telling her she’d won $1,000, she thought it was a scam.

“I didn’t believe her at first,” explained Krista, (whose last name was not revealed). “I gave her a little bit of a hard time. I’ve never won anything before.”

She finally believed it was true when Wheeler told her she won because of a sandwich purchase at a local deli, where she used her debit card.

For the remainder of 2012, Independent Bank is giving away five $1,000 prizes each month statewide. Every time customers swipe their debit card they are entered to win. Simply by using their debit card for everyday purchases like a cup of coffee, gas or groceries, they have a chance at adding $1,000 to their bank account. There are over a million cards swiped everyday across the state.

“I’m so excited that someone from this area won,” said Wheeler.

“Maybe I should buy a lottery ticket,” remarked Krista.

“The Sweepstakes are a fun way for Independent Bank to thank its customers for using their debit cards,” said Independent Bank’s Marketing Director Tricia Raquepaw. “We are excited about the contest because it’s a great way for us to re-invest in our communities and pay it forward to our customers.”
