Metro Health Cedar Springs, located at 14211 White Creek, will soon break ground on a new 3,412 square-foot addition, in an effort to bring more treatment options to their patients.
Dr. Erica Elsing, who has been with Metro Health Cedar Springs since it opened in 2000, said they have between 3,000 and 5,000 patients, and about 22 staff employees, which includes two physicians, and four physician assistants. She said they are kept very busy, and that in part prompted the addition.
“We’ve had to bring on more staff, we need more exam rooms, and we’d like to bring in more patient services,” said Dr. Elsing.
“We’d like to have a documented area for specialists—OB/GYN, Orthopedics, Urology, Neurology, general surgery, ear, nose, and throat—where one day a week we might have one of those specialists on site,” she explained. She also said they would love to have a full-time pediatrician.
They are building off the east side of the building, which will add 14 more exam rooms, as well as new meeting spaces for things like diabetes classes. In the future they also hope to have on site mammography, instead of the mobile one. They already have a dedicated x-ray lab and physical therapy area. Parking will also be expanded.
Elsing said they get patients from all over—from Big Rapids north, Mt. Pleasant, and even south of Grand Rapids. “We are hoping as we expand that it will help bring patients more services,” she said.
They plan to start the addition this month. There will still be parking in front, but the side will be roped off. The entrance will be the same, and they will be moving physical therapy to the front of the building. She estimates the construction will take eight or nine months, and they should open the addition next February or March.
