Freshmen team bucks Broncos

“Every player was able to contribute during the game. We played a complete game by not letting up and playing hard to the end.” This statement by Coach Kirk Covey sums up the freshman football game on September 15 against the Coopersville Broncos.
The Hawks held the Broncos for the first half of the game making the score 16-0. Coopersville made it on the board in the 3rd quarter, but the Hawk’s defense stopped them from scoring their 2-point conversion. Later in the 3rd quarter, Cedar matched the Coopersville touchdown, keeping Cedar in the lead 22-6. The opening play of the 4th quarter was a successful 25-yard pass from Hunter Larsen to MavRick Cotton, resulting in another Red Hawk touchdown! The Hawks had some penalty setbacks in the 4th quarter, but a couple fumble recoveries got them back on track and they finished up with two more touchdowns, both having successful field goals.
“We worked on improving our passing game this week and we were able to pass more effectively during the game,” said Covey. The practice sure paid off this week, bringing the game to a close with a Cedar Springs victory of 42-6 and the season to 3-1.
What will the Red Hawks bring to the field when they travel to Forest Hills Northern on September 22nd and to Comstock Park on September 29th? The boys hope you will be there to find out!
