Five hurt in accident on M-57

An accident in Oakfield Township sent five people to the hospital Tuesday morning.


The accident occurred about 8:45 a.m. at 14 Mile (M-57) and Old 14 Mile Rd. According to the Michigan State Police, a 2007 Pontiac G-6 traveling eastbound on 14 Mile was waiting to turn left on to Old 14 Mile, when a 1996 Plymouth Voyager minivan, also heading eastbound, hit it from behind and pushed the car into oncoming traffic, where it hit a westbound 2001 Ford Windstar minivan.

The driver of the Pontiac, a 36-year-old Sand Lake man; the driver of the Plymouth Voyager, a 48-year-old Cedar Springs man; the driver of the Ford Windstar, a 28-year-old Greenville woman and her two children were all injured in the accident.


According to Oakfield Fire Chief Don Riker, the three adults and two children were taken to the hospital as priority one patients. AeroMed was initially put on standby but was unable to fly due to the weather.

Assisting the Michigan State Police at the scene was Oakfield Fire and Rescue, Courtland Fire and Rescue, Kent County Sheriff Department, and Rockford Ambulance.
