Sheriff deputies from Montcalm County are investigating a jet ski accident that sent one man to the hospital last weekend.
According to police, two men were operating jet skis on Cowden Lake, in Maple Valley Township, on Friday, July 8, at about 3:43 p.m. when the accident occurred. Marine deputies were at the boat launch at the time.
The deputies determined that Kristopher Spoon, 33, of Zeeland, and Charles Dupin, 36, of Kincheloe, were operating jet skis in the middle of the lake, and were spinning the jet skis in circles and jumping their own wake, when the two jet skis collided. Dupin was struck and thrown from the jet ski into the water. Spoon rescued Dupin and took him to shore, where he was met by marine deputies and first responders.
Dupin was transported to an AeroMed helicopter and flown to Spectrum Hospital, where he was listed in fair condition.
Both men were wearing lifejackets and alcohol use was not a factor in the accident.
Deputies at the scene were assisted by Maple Valley fire and Montcalm County EMS.
