Maxine G. Bergman

Maxine G. Bergman, 75 of Sand Lake, died Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Winter Haven Hospital in Florida. She was born December 13, 1935 in Sparta, MI the daughter of Otto and Mildred (Hawley) Ridgeway. Maxine was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was married for 57 years to her best friend and traveling partner. She loved babysitting for her grandchildren, attending their sporting events, reading, tending to her flowers, visits to the casino or socializing at the Tri-County Eagles Club. She was a member of Mary Queen of Apostles Church and the Ladies Guild in Sand Lake, MI and St. Joseph’s Parish in Auburndale, FL. She was a board member at North Kent Community Services, Sand Lake Chamber of Commerce, and Mildred Houting Leisure Acres. Former Ensley Township and Pierson Township Clerk, member of the Grand Rapids and Montcalm County Board of Realtors, Grand Rapids Optimist Club and docent of the Cedar Key Museum. Surviving are her husband Ralph (Jerry) Bergman; children, Gail & Ed Prentice, Rick & Patty Bergman, Mike & Lisa Bergman, Rosie & Gary Ells; 12 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Lester Ridgeway. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jack Bergman; foster brother, Robert Howell; grandson, Michael Bergman. The family received friends Sunday and Monday at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs where a Rosary was prayed on Monday. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday May 3, 2011 at Mary Queen of Apostles Church, Sand Lake. Rev. Fr. Joseph W. Kenshol celebrant. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Sand Lake. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
