The Odyssey of the Mind team from Cedar View Elementary participated in the Region 13 Tournament on March 19. This first year team comprised of seven 5th graders and finished 7th in Division I. They prepared to compete in a spontaneous problem solving round as well as a long-term problem. The long-term problem they chose was “Good as Gold…Berg.”  Students were expected to complete the entire problem through teamwork without any outside influence including coaches, friends and family. Their problem required building a device that used multiple complex tasks to solve a simple problem.  They also needed to write a skit which explained how the device worked, sell the device through an advertisement campaign, and demonstrate that the multiple steps completed the simple task.
