The Post recently received a letter from 7-year-old Ethan Riley, of Pierson. The Sand Lake second-grader attends Solon Center Wesleyan Church, and told us a about a mission project he and his mom have undertaken. Here is what he told us:
“I love playing sports and being outside just like any other kid. My nana went to Kenya, Africa last spring and took lots of pictures. Some of the pictures were of the kids there with the toys they made from garbage and sticks. This made me sad, so I decided to collect matchbox and hotwheel cars to give to these kids. I took 50 from my cars at home and donated them. My goal is at least 500 cars. Right now I have about 150 cars to donate. On March 30, 2011, I plan on going on a missionary trip to Kenya with my mom to deliver the cars. I plan on giving the cars to the local kids, kids in the hospitals and at the schools. While there I plan on helping to do a vacation bible school also. I would like to know if you could help me with my missionary trip. I am looking for donations of cars and help with my plane ticket. If you can help that would be great! I want to help the kids in Kenya have fun and be happy like me.”
Ethan and his mom need enough money to cover their trip there and back by February 1, 2011. If you’d like to donate, make out your check or money order to Solon Center Wesleyan Church and put “Riley”in the memo line. Send to the church at 15671 Algoma Ave, Cedar Springs, MI 49319. For more information call the church at 696-3229.
