Rodney Scott Smith, 24 of Cedar Springs, died Thursday, October 28, 2010. Rodney was born April 4, 1986 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Roy and Nancy (Bessey) Smith. He was a graduate of Cedar Springs High School Class of 2004 where he was a state champion in track. He was a dedicated student and had graduated from Ferris State University. He was employed as an x-ray technician at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus where he loved giving and taking care of people. He enjoyed hunting and loved the outdoors. He was a gracious, gentle and kind young man and was a loving son and brother. Surviving are his parents, Roy & Nancy Smith of Cedar Springs, brothers, Randy Smith of Cedar Springs, Jason (Mary) Preston of Comstock Park; girlfriend, Jessica Lynn Steil and her son, Alex; grandparents, Ken & Thelma Reed of Wyoming, Merle & Joyce Smith of Cedar Springs; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank James Bessey and a great grandmother, Ida Bell. The family will receive friends Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs, www.blisswitterspike.com where services will be held Tuesday 11:00 am.
