Last Friday night’s Varsity Red Hawks football game had a lot of story lines going into it. It was homecoming, senior parent night, the last home game for the seniors, conference championship, and potential playoff birth on the line. Not to mention that the opponent was the Falcons of Grand Rapids West Catholic, ranked 1st in the state in division 5 and undefeated in OK Blue conference play. The ending was not what the Red Hawks had practiced and hoped for, as the Falcons led 21-0 after the first quarter and 42-0 at half time enroute to a 45-7 resounding victory.
Without any offensive production, defensive stops, or special team success the boys can still take at least one thing from the game—the season still is not over. Going into this final game the boys will need to lick their wounds and prepare for rival Sparta with a sixth victory and a playoff berth still in reach. Game time is 7 p.m. tomorrow at Sparta field. Let’s have the community show their support by filling the stands and cheer the boys on into a victory and a playoff berth.
