JV Red Hawks remain unbeaten

Win against West Catholic seals conference championship

The JV football team continued their winning streak last Thursday, October 14, and improved to 8-0 on the season with a 14-7 victory over Grand Rapids West Catholic.  The game was evenly matched and the teams battled all night long, but a strong defensive effort, including 3 fumble recoveries and 1 interception clinched the victory and for Cedar Springs.

The Red Hawks came out and scored with a quaterback keeper by Cameron Cooper in the first quarter and a 2-point conversion, giving the Hawks the 8-0 lead. The score remained unchanged until the 4th quarter, when both teams were giving their all to bring a victory to their team. The Hawks offensive made some great blocks, allowing running back Allen Slagter to run it in for another touchdown, bringing the Hawks to 14-0. The Falcons answered with a touchdown of their own, but would be unable to score against the Red Hawks again.  Another highlight of the evening was the final drive of the night for Cedar Springs. With under two minutes left in the game and up by seven points, they were facing a 3rd and 25, with the ball on the their own 35 yard line. Cameron Cooper ran a 40-yard quarterback keep and saved the team from having to punt and give the ball back to West Catholic. Thanks to the great blocking and total team effort in picking up that important late game first down, the JV Red Hawks clenched their victory and claimed their conference title.

Come out Thursday night and support the JV team as they finish the season at home against Sparta, our biggest rival. The freshman start at 4:30 and the JV will follow 20 minutes after the freshman game.
