Gordon R. Welch

Gordon R. Welch, 78 of Cedar Springs, went to be with his Lord on Thursday, September 9, 2010 at Spectrum Health – Butterworth Campus. Mr. Welch was born February 9, 1932 in Sparta, MI the son of Chester and Gwendolyn (Ferrick) Welch. He was a Corporal in the U.S Army serving on the front lines of the Korean War. He retired from the Service Department at MichCon. He loved the Lord and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church, Cedar Springs. He was very giving and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be lovingly remembered by “Althea, the girl of my dreams”, Althea (Bliss) whom he married on September 20, 1957; one son and his wife, Richard (Linda) Welch of Wyoming; two grandsons, David and Jonathan; brothers, Charlie (Donna) Welch, Jerry (Jackie) Welch; sisters, Mary (Larry) Jensen, Mona (Dick) Harroun; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carol Merlington; brother, Tom Welch. The family received friends Sunday from 7-9 pm at the Bliss-Witters & Pike Funeral Home, Cedar Springs. The service was held Monday 11:00 am at First Baptist Church. Pastor Jim Howard officiating. Interment Fairplains Cemetery, Sparta. Military honors by the Kent County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church.
