A Cedar Springs man was arrested last Wednesday night and jailed on his third drunk driving offence.
According to Cedar Springs Police Chief Roger Parent, the Kent County Sheriff Department sent out an area broadcast Wednesday evening, September 1, for police to be on the lookout for a vehicle that had fled the scene of a minor accident east of Cedar Springs. A short time later, at approximately 11L30 p.m., Cedar Springs Police Officer Paul Feutz saw the vehicle on Main Street and made a traffic stop.
Parent said that when the driver exited the vehicle, he appeared to be intoxicated, and Officer Feutz’s on scene investigation confirmed it. The driver, Stephen Carl Bishop, 49, of Cedar Springs, was placed under arrest and lodged at the Kent County Correctional Facility.
Bishop was arraigned on September 2 in 63rd District Court on a felony OWI (operating while intoxicated) 3rd offence violation. He received a $10,000 cash/surety bond, and his preliminary exam was scheduled for September 15 at 10 a.m.
