Ricardo Rios and Nate McDonald, both of Cedar Springs, are preparing to fight for West Michigan Championships.
Rios will fight for the 141lb novice title for the second consecutive year. McDonald will be fighting for the 152lb sub-novice title. McDonald won a 4-1 decision on Saturday against MGGA’s Miles Murphy.
“For being Nate’s first year in the tournament I am very pleased with the way Nate handled himself in there,” said John Mason, Sand Lake’s head coach. “I believe his fight was one of the best of the entire night.”
Rios won via walk over when Chad Bowens backed out of their scheduled bout. Rios had faced Bowens last year and beat him by second round knock out. “I am upset because I was ready to fight, but there is nothing I can do exce pt get back in the gym and get ready for Saturdays fight,” said Rios. “I know it’s going to be a tough fight.”
The West Michigan Championships will be held at the 44th street Armory in Grand Rapids on April 3 at 7:00 p.m.
