The Red Hawk Varsity basketball win against Sparta on February 16 was especially sweet for senior Jason Gust. Gust opened the second half scoring with a long 3-pointer with 7:19 left in the 3rd quarter. With that basket, Gust became the 6th player in Cedar Springs Boys Varsity basketball history to score 1000 points.

Gust joins Norm Hill, Nick Wolfe, Tyler Wolfe, Austin Thornton, and Luke Walker in the 1000-point club. The fact that Jason surpassed 1000 points on a long three pointer was appropriate. Gust is known for his 3 point shooting and currently has made 164 threes in his career. Jason played on the 22-2 OK Blue and District Championship team, as a freshmen, in 2007. That team featured three of the six 1000-point club members, including Cedar Springs’ all time leading scorer Austin Thornton, along with Luke Walker and Gust. Jason will continue his basketball career next year for Aquinas College.

“What a great accomplishment by Jason to put himself with those other Cedar greats,” said Coach Andy Secor. “He has played on some great teams, and had great teammates, and all his hard work has paid off.”
