Jeff Gust, of Cedar Springs, was appointed on February 4 to fill out the remainder of the term recently vacated by Pamela Conely on the Cedar Springs Board of Education.

The board also interviewed candidates Jamie Zywicki and Matthew Shoffner for the position.

Gust, 42, has lived in Cedar Springs all of his life and is a graduate of both Cedar Springs High School and Ferris State University, with a degree in construction management. He also owns his own construction business.

Gust has been involved with the Cedar Springs Athletic boosters for five years, and the athletic program for 15 years. He has coached high school football for 12 years, and baseball for three years. He has three children in the school district.

“As a father, community member, business owner, and active member of the school district, Jeff will bring many perspectives to the Board of Education and will be a great asset to our District,” said an official statement from Cedar Springs Public Schools.

Gust’s term will end on June 30, 2010. He also expressed interest in running for one of the open seats in this year’s school election, which will take place May 4. There will be three positions available. Two of the positions are four-year terms ending June 30, 2014. One position is for a one-year term ending June 30, 2011.
