It was a new competition site for the Red Hawks as they traveled to Mt. Pleasant on January 16 to compete against many teams that they normally don’t get a chance to compete against until later in the season. The competition started at 11:00 for both the JV and Varsity teams and they were ready to go. “The Varsity team would be competing against Mt. Pleasant and Mason, both of which competed at the State Finals last year. I wanted to get the girls in a competition where they would compete against them before they see them at the Regional competition,” said Coach Pamela Ingles.

The trip to Mt. Pleasant proved to be a good adventure for both teams. Both teams finished in 2nd place. JV was 2nd to Division 1 Grandville JV and Varsity was 2nd to Mt. Pleasant, who finished 2nd place last year at the State Finals. The Varsity team also had a record high round 3 score of 308.5. This was the highest round 3 score ever for Cedar Springs. “We went on the mat and did our best to own it. That was the most pumped up I’ve been all season!” remarked Senior Melanie Kurylowicz.

The Lady Red Hawks also hosted the 2nd OK Blue Conference Meet on Wednesday, January 20, with the Varsity placing 3rd, and the JV taking first. Seven varsity teams that include a variety of division levels make up the OK Blue Conference. Division 1 Forest Hills Co-op, division 3 State Champion Comstock Park, and other division 2 and 3 schools make up the OK Blue. Each competition for the OK Blue is a battle for the Varsity teams. Currently, Comstock Park is in 1st place, but there is a 3-way tie right now for 3rd place between Cedar Springs, Forest Hills, and Sparta. With only 2 conference meets left, it will be a battle to see how the final standings end for the teams that are currently tied for 3rd. The JV team has had a great season in the OK Blue conference meets as they have won both meets and are currently in 1st place for the JV conference title.

Both teams will be competing on Saturday, January 30 at the LMCCOA Scholarship Competition at East Kentwood High School.

The Varsity team is currently ranked #5 in the State in Division 2.
