The Cedar Springs Red Hawk boys varsity basketball team traveled to Byron Center last Tuesday to take on the state ranked Bulldogs. The intense pressure and trapping defense by the Bulldogs proved to be too much to handle for the Red Hawks.
Byron Center took a 15-7 lead after one quarter of play. Then a 22-6 Bulldog advantage in the second quarter gave Byron Center a commanding 37-13 lead at the half. Cedar Springs shot only 2 for 23 from the floor in the first half, with both field goals made by Seth Coxon. Byron Center extended their lead in the second half and came away with a 68-34 victory.
Coxon and Alec Hanmer led Cedar Springs with 6 points each, Jason Gust had 5 points, Kyle Chaney and Trey Reed netted 4 points each. Jake Holtrop and Ryan Dines had 3 points each, Tyler Baker scored 2 points and Hank Porter 1. Baker led the Red Hawks with 8 rebounds.
The Red Hawks travel to Comstock Park on Friday to take on the defending league champion Panthers.
