Solon selects deputy chief

The Solon Township board promoted Lt. Brian VanderLaan to the position of Deputy Fire Chief at its regular meeting last Tuesday, January 12. VanderLaan has been with the department about five years, and was highly recommended by the township’s fire committee.

“I think he’ll do a great job,” said Solon Township Supervisor Bob Ellick. “He’s young, energetic, and self-motivated.”

The job has been posted off and on internally for 6-8 months. There were four applicants for the position, all from within the fire department.
