German exchange student Lukas Holstein was all over the floor last week in a 49-28 victory in the mid-week battle between the Creative Technologies Academy basketball team and the West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science.

“We were really waiting for Lukas to have a break out game,” said Coach Oldebekking. “He is so athletic that we as coaches knew that if it clicked for him, he was really going to play well.”  On Wednesday it did click—he stuffed the stat sheet with 19 points, 18 rebounds, 6 steals, and 3 Dwight Howard-esqe blocks. There was a three minute stretch in the third quarter where Lukas played out of this world. He literally grabbed every rebound, scored every basket, and had a couple steals, all in that three minutes. “It was like nothing I have seen since I have been coaching,” Oldebekking commented.

Unfortunately for the Chargers’ basketball team and all of CTA, Lukas will be heading back to Germany on January 15, to finish out the school year in his home country. “Lukas will be missed, not only by the basketball team, but by the whole CTA community. He really has blended well in our school and has made a ton of friends,” said Director of Student Services Kyle Bohl. “We wish him the best and we know that he will represent himself and CTA very well in the future.”

This victory moves the Chargers record to 2-1 on the young season. They were back in action Friday January 8, against Lakeshore Baptist Academy, and will be travel on January 12 to Greenville to take on Grattan Academy in what should be a great game.
