Edith Stone

Mrs. Edith Stone, age 93, of Rockford, passed away on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. Edith worked at Wolverine World Wide and also worked in  upholstery for a Grand Rapids firm. She was very compassionate and loved her family. Edith could do anything she set out to do and was the “glue” that held her family together. When you visited her home, you could not leave without eating a meal. She and Chester had a great marriage, and their actions reflected their love for one another. Christmas time was Edith’s favorite time of the year, and she prepared enough food for an Army. Her children and grandchildren are grateful that she taught them how to crochet, upholster, and quilt. She is survived by her daughters, Marilyn Stone of Rockford, and Joyce and Larry Carr of Cedar Springs; her grandchildren, Terri and Scott Nelson and Rodney Rathbun; great-grandchildren, Kurt and Jennifer Guarisco, Michael and Joslyn Walker, Heather Rathbun, Rachael Rathbun, Mallory Rathbun, Stephanie Nelson; great-great-grandchildren, Seth and Brayden; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester on April 24, 2003, and her sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Finch, and Mrs. Alfrieda Gross. The Service of Praise and Thanksgiving for the gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ for Mrs. Stone was Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Evangelical Free Church, 4714 Thirteen Mile Rd., Rockford with Pastor Kevin Reed officiating. Interment in Courtland Twp. Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Heartland Hospice or the Humane Society of Kent County. Relatives and friends may gather at the Pederson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday.
