A group of 8 area cross country runners traveled to Kenosha, Wisconsin, over the holiday weekend, to compete in the Footlocker Midwest Regional—a race that features some of the best runners in a 13-state area. The weather for the race was perfect but mother nature had other plans and dumped more than 5 inches of rain in a 7-day period on the area, making for a very muddy and slippery course.
Cedar Springs all-state freshman Connor Mora medaled with a 6th place finish in the boys Freshman/Sophomore race—a race that had 210-plus runners. Other runners competing in the race were Alex Bray with a 78th place finish, Ethan Menefee and Tim Klementowski.
All-state freshman Katie Weiler medaled with a strong 3rd place finish in the girls Freshman/Sophomore race. Alaina Wier, a freshman from Comstock Park traveling with the group, finished in 33rd and sophomore Kayla Ovokaitys finished in 39th.
In the Girls seeded race, all-state senior Breeann Ovokaitys finished in 57th place, a great showing in a race that had 270 runners participating.
Congratulations to these athletes on a fine season. Thanks to coaches Ted Sabinas and Jenni Kalher from Cedar Springs for their time and support this season.
